Cash machine dilemma [poll]?

Already been in the situation and walked after the guy to give him his money, got back to the queue for the cash machine and all the ignorant sods there wouldn't let me back in to the front of the line so had to queue up again!

In this situation i'd give it back, if I arrived at a cash point to find money sticking out of it with no-one around I'd take it.

If it makes me non-decent that's fine by me. The world is dog-eat-dog and people need to take responsibility for their actions.

I'm sorry but please get some perspective. Someone left their money in the cash machine, it's a simple and silly mistake, it happens and you do the right thing of handing it back to them. End of story.

If I was stupid enough to leave my money in the cashpoint then I'd fully expect someone to have it.

Did your parents teach you that trick?

The fact is I have to work too hard for my money to do something like that. I have been distracted by allsorts of things, but not forgotten I've just requested cash for something I'm intending to buy. Do these people get distracted and forget to breathe as well

You are taking it completely out of context. If a mother along with her baby in a pram goes to a cash machine, once her card gets processed back out, the baby, for example, starts being sick, the mother looks down at her child, comforts the baby and just does a quick clean up and then walks away but obviously forgetting to take the money out of the machine.

Are you saying to me that you would be more than happy to take that money from that woman? What if it was your girlfriend/wife, you would be happy for some stranger just to take her money?

How about if it was one of your friends was withdrawing cash and you were right behind them and then they just walked away forgetting to take their money, you would just take it for yourself?

I don't take it upon myself to teach people anything. I'm not a teacher. You are not nicking anything - they've walked away and left it.

They have walked away, left it and have obviously forgotten about taking the cash for various reasons which should have no bearing effect on weather you should give it back to them or not.

Indescency  it may be but nice guys finish last. As I originally said if you can afford to be careless enough to leave money in the cash point then I need it more than you.

It's not about "nice guys finishing last", it's simply about doing the right thing.

What would you do if someone did forget to take their money, walked away and just as you are about to put it in your pocket, they realised they forgot to take their money and turned back and saw you taking it, what would you do then? Wait, since it's a "dog-eat-dog" world out there and "nice guys finish last", I'm guessing you would karate chop them, smack them in the mouth a couple of times, take their wallet as well since it just happened to be lying on the ground and then run away.

I cannot believe we are having this discussion to be honest. :(

I was at a cash point the other week on the phone, the person infront got the cash but forget to take there card but because I was on the phone didnt take any notice to the person infront so couldnt remember what they looked like. Was in a big shopping mall so was packed with lots of other people, just handed it into customer services though.

someone infront of me once walked off mid transaction leaving the card in the machine with pin number already entered  i could have emptied there account ! i partially didnt think of that at the time to be fair but anyway i took the card into the bank and handed it in

i felt so good for doing that !

if i saw it happen then i'd shout them, however, one time i was walking into a supermarket and saw some money sticking out of the cashpoint outside, nobody about so i pocketed it (£30) :D

It is theft, most modern cash machines have video footage now not photo, so if you are seen taking it then put your card in you will be prosecuted for theft. I have dealt with this kind of incident twice now and both times I have had a result from it, its just to easy to catch people, banks will happily give out your information and you will end up with a criminal record.

Don't get me wrong, if there's some un-identifiable cash laying in the street it's finders keepers - but you know money sticking out of a cash point will be sucked in if it's left for any length of time, so the owner will get it back no harm done.

Taking it is wrong, your making yourself a petty thief for a few quid - on camera, and with the possibility the guy who left it is on his way back and in a bad mood.

Since we're talking small amounts, what if "someone" gave you a laptop that was 'hacked' into a bank account of somoene with millions of pounds and you could do what you 'wanted' - what would you do then? ;)

Nb: and the person got all the money from bad things , dun dun dun
