Nvidia GTX 280 - IN STOCK NOW!!!

who over is thinking of upgrading: im thinking, why bother? if you have a gt/gts let alone a gtx there is no point. money would be best spent upgrading to a quad, maybe more ram and save the rest. or if you have a bit more money to burn...sli your 8800gt's as they are at cracking prices.

EDIT: my 8800gts 640mb considering my processer handles mordern games great cod4 max with 2xaa no problem , older games ie cpu limited is what is hurting me the most.

Easily get a pc for that, its getting to a point where these cards are just getting unaffordable, £300 for a high end a few years back, its almost doubled since then.

Totally agreed. £200 for a cracking card (obviously not cutting edge) is about my limit im afraid. Like said, you can buy a complete system for one of these, lets see if they justify the tag with some insane test results.

Why do you think Nvidia's telling everyone Dx10.1 is not important, so they won't add it to their cards, as they can't come out and say 'We can't do Dx10.1, so we can't add it' can they. :)

I'm getting confused with people complaining about the price for the GT 280.

The 8800 GTX was 499 on release its not a new phenomena 500 quid GFX cards!

give it a rest. they could have done it if they wanted to. if they can put 1.4 billion transistors on a single die, they can certainly implement dx10.1. You're clutching at straws, LodsaMoney.

They CHOSE not to. why i do not know. i dont think it was the best choice, unless they can prove they do support the 'important parts' as they say, whatever they are.

Yes, and just look at the performance jump the 8800GTX gave us over the previous generation.

This time around, they still want you to pay the price, just minus the jump.

I think the complaints are less about the price per se, but more about the fact that it is £100+ more than the GX2 with little to no increase in performance.

G80 cant do DX10, sure , and unlike the G92 and new cards out today it WAS a totally new Tech so worth the cost and held its top place longer than ever.

You all notice I never posted much in the G92 threads basically as I was not interested in a rehash, well I'm now after 1 day of reading reviews out of these new cards threads.

They are not much more than a rehash and a GTX/Ultra is still fine IMO, I will game at 1920's for now and down to 1600's If need be till next Real gen is out.

Best of luck to anyone buying one, but if your a GTX/Ultra owner dont be mad.

With 8800gtx we had double or tripple the performance campare to other graphic cards in the market at the release, but with gt 280 we are not getting that boost in performance to justify the price tag of £470.

you know, ive been look through Xbit's 8800gtx review, and there are quite a few benchmarks where the 7900gtx sli was faster, or very very close, while the 7950gx2 was slower..... of course, the 8800gtx spanks them in other benchmarks, but its interesting isnt it? has a lot in common with this round of cards - the 8800gtx, 8800gtx sli and the gtx280.

Don't live in the past james.miller! :p

i cant help it lol. we are seeing a replay of what happened last time round - the ranking of the cards in relation to one another, the price of the gtx280..... yet most people are ignoring it lol.

In the anticipation of GTX280 I put my GX2 on sale last week. Viewing the benchmarks results and reviews I am actually happy I didn't sell GX2 since GTX280 seems to be often even slower. Anyway it does not justify its price.

Come on people, have we ever been asked almost 500 quid for a GFX card? This is bloody ridicules! And don't tell me about recession

^^^ this is exactly what im talking about.

Most people don't have £500 to spend on a gfx card thats what is different to the release of the 8800GTX you might have noticed little things like energy bills and general cost of living going up has had a bit of a negative impact on the amount of cash people have to spend or we can adopt the attitude of some on here and just put it down to everyone being an idiot .

lol dont take it personally, but the cost of other things doesnt bare relation to the cost of nvidias top gpu. it has been released at the same price as the 8800gtx. despite being twice the size and the biggest single die possibly ever made? despite being a lot faster (it is, though not as fast as any of us would like), it is very nearly the same price as the g80 gtx. dont blame the cost of living for the price of the gtx280. we're lucky the price hasnt increased along with everything else that goes with the cost of living.
