Been in Vegas for last 2 weeks and might surprise you to learn I played a bit of poker :p actually not too much

Spent the first 3 nights downtown in the Golden Nugget and foolishly decided to play the 2am tourney at Binions after a load of beer and being up for 30 hours

Anyway decided that due to being tired I wasn't going to play 3 hours and then bubble as it was **** or bust

3 hands in I haveA7 in BB , flop 567 2 spades, SB bets 500 and I raise to 1800 ( we only started with 2000 but I wanted to be sure to shift anyone with 2 spades/overcards and as I say I was going for it )

turn 7 spades , river K spades

other player chucks his last few in so I had to call for rest of my stack, he shows 2d 9s , so one spade and a gutshot when he called my re raise

quote from my missus who was watching "is he ****ing stupid ? ":p

ah well , next lunchtime tourney busted out when 3 of us flopped a set

then spent 3 daytimes playing 1-3-6 limit in the El Cortez, A real old place with an amazing bunch of characters, most 70+ with various odd mannerisms and odours

most notable player was a bloke in his late 80s who played for over 8 hours a day, after talking to him turns out he is Jackie Gaughan who has owned about 10 casinos in Vegas inc being involved in the Flamingo with Bugsy Siegel , had a few chats but decided some subjects best avoided, 1950's casino owners had reputations

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Gaughan

After a few nights we moved onto the strip where I played a few small tournaments, had one win and one second but nothing great, the lower end tournaments are real harsh with about 2000 chips, 20 min levels and 40 player ones are over in 3 hours

also played in the Venetian DeepStack extravaganza

great structure, 12k chips 40 min levels, didn't get anywhere and busted out with JJ against QQ in 150th out of 433

One hand from a 1/2 NL game that I am still unsure about

UTG raises $12 ( standard raise on loosish table ) me UTG+4 raise to $50 with AK off

BB ( tighter than most ) reraised to $152 all in

decided that AA or KK where most likely hands so after a long think laid it down , he showed AhKh

any thoughts ?

some shocking dealing at times ( lots of temps due to WSOP and other festivals )

worst was 4 left in hand , 2 all ins

he dealt flop, turn and river without stopping, on the turn I hit my flush ( I had Kh Jh ) and before I bet he dealt another heart on river and one guy had Ah, I would have pushed all in on turn given half the chance

last thing ( for now )

bloke on my table, right fish he was ;)

sounds like a pretty cool trip - especially meeting that Jackie Gaughan character

I think I'll aim to go there next summer (though will need to get in a fair bit of practice at poker first)

is that the guy that you see regularly playing on those late night TV poker shows on sky? if so hes so damn annoying!!!! (hes the one that just doesnt shut up if im not mistaken? might be a different guy though, havent watched it in ages)

sounds like great fun by the way, lucky sod, got a mate who lives in aberdeen now who made a killing from online poker, only 22-23 and owns his own house (fully paid) among other things, wish i knew him better :p

he wasn't really on my table ;) would have loved to have busted him wth some really dodgy draw just to make him go off on one if he had been :p

You would've had to record it too :D

Sounds like fun, I'd love to play in Vegas. Or any live poker for that matter :(

Lots of pros winning WSOP events: Matusow, Negreanu, Greenstein, most of the PLO Rebuy final table are pros.

Are flights/hotels expensive around June/July time Rotty? Would love to go over next year, but need to price everything up :)

Im going next tuesday :D

Direct flights with Virgin cost £470 + 2000 miles (which cost ~£30 to get) or £550 flat fee.
And a week in 1 of the upgraded rooms in the Excalibur for £370.

That's pretty good, looking at going for 2 weeks, so upwards of £700ish then.

Aye, Hellmuths a good guy, met him when I was in Vegas. You'll be surprised to learn he was complaining about a bad beat as WSOP '05 :p.

Don't understand the OP at all, I like poker but don't understand it: all the initials / codes make no sense. Did you come out above evens or lose overall?

prob down a bit for first time on Vegas trip, played quite a bit of cash limit, with 10% rake and dealer tips it's hard to come out ahead in the long run
