And then even after a 3-4 months easily to £350-400, they will have to phase out the expensive 9800GX2 and take over its £330-350 price tag eventually.

And if ATI bring out a winning card in the 4870XT prices may drop sharply for Nvidia which is what were all hoping at this point

3-4 months? LOL! by then the next gen cards will be announced and nVidia will be laughing at the people that bought a GTX 260/280 while they rip more people off.

for someone who wants a completely water cooled system without the hassle of the fiddling with old heatsink . its not bad. wish i had one (and a watercooled system) sadly not.

I think ATI is the way to go for now :s I was hoping for a cheap NVid successor to my ATI 3870X2...I guess that's not going to happen any time soon.

I'm getting confused with people complaining about the price for the GT 280.


The 8800 GTX was 499 on release its not a new phenomena 500 quid GFX cards!

512mb 7800gtx anyone? That was over £500 at least 17 years ago (that's how it feels anyway) what always gets me at launch on these things is the price differential. About £150 difference from top to bottom on what is basically the same product, almost enough to get you sli 8800gts!

Crackers pricing, not unusual but with £1.99 petrol and no mortgages about it does seem faintly ridiculous although I accept there are only vague links between all this.

Microstuttering seen at low FPS... Are you sure that's not just framerate lag?

i am not trying to bulls*** anybody, i am trying to give an honest opinion so they can get almost the same performance for a lot cheaper than buying these new cards if they so wish.

and its not because i have 2 cards, if they were rubbish i would get rid of them i am not like that trust me.

btw benchmarks on review sites showing 2 cards in SLi would say otherwise about the framerate lag

I would say 2 GTX 280's would probably blistering in SLi but look at the cost! over 800 squid just for 2 of those alone

I'll be watching with interest to see how the 4870 does when reviews come, speaking of which i havent heard anything about that at all just the 4850.
