here's some interesting news for a console that a lot regard as costing to much and not having enough games

According to estimates from VG Chartz, sales of the PS3 have surpassed those of the Xbox 360 within Europe despite the PS3 launching much later than the Xbox 360. PS3 sales stand at 5,450,869 while Xbox 360 sales in Europe stand at 5,415,053 units in Europe.

With data for the week ending June 14, 2008 now in, PS3 hardware sales have passed Xbox 360 sales in Europe . Despite launching over a year after the Xbox 360 did in Europe, PS3 sales stand at 5,450,869 while Xbox 360 sales in Europe stand at 5,415,053 units in Europe. The larger ‘Others’ region covers places like Australia, Africa, and mainland Asia in addition to Europe, which is why Xbox 360 is still slightly ahead of PS3 in Others. Additionally, Sony and Microsoft define ‘Europe’ differently in their financial reports, while in this case ‘Europe’ simply means the entire continent of Europe.

At 5,415,053 units in 132 weeks , Xbox 360 has sold an average of 41,023 units per week in Europe since launching in 2005. PS3 has caught the Xbox 360 in Europe by selling an average of 83,860 units over 65 weeks of sales in Europe, a pace roughly double Xbox 360 sales but still off the pace of Wii and PS2.

Oxymoron? Surely if it was released later this means that a large majority of people will already have bought a 360, therefore PS3 sales were bound to overtake it at some point?

Is it not a bit unfair to just directly compare the figures of each console side by side. The good majority of people that I know with PS3's have only bought them to watch Blu-Ray movies so surely in a manner of speaking they have only bought a blu-ray player that has a game console tagged on. The 360 is only a games console while the PS3 is a multimedia centre basically. I guess at the end of the day though none of that really matters as long as the units get shifted. :)

I'm probs going off on a tangent and not really helping but oh well, thats my 2p on it. Before anyone says im bias towards either I have both ;)

Its a cumulative total, ie from when both consoles was released , so you would expect the console that has been out over twice as long to have higher sales? Thing i do find most surprising as PS3 are only bought for bluray  is that PS3 software (cumulative) is higher in the Others/europe Area than the 360, not bad for a console with no games i guess:p

Surely by this logic, the Xbox should have caught up with PS2 sales in the last gen?

And with the greatest game ever not long out (MGS4) on the PS3, and a bit of a barron spell for the 360 then they will only increase.

Slighty OT, but is it just me or is the xbox 360 going through a bit of a slow spell just now?

That's the power of brand. Whether we should be rejoicing over a console outselling another with less features and quality titles is another thing though.

I predicted this last year.

Xbox 360 couldn't have had a better 2007 in terms of game releases and still it wavered on the sales front (worse sales than 2006), so with no real major exclusives in 2008 PS3 dominance was inevitable especially after Bluray won. I expect the reputation for shoddy build quality hasn't helped either.

The only positive for Microsoft is that they remain strong in the US and they still make plenty of profit from existing Live subscribers.

Does it really matter when the Wii is giving them both a severe beating, Sony are so desperate to proclaim victory over MS that they're conveniently bypassing the fact that they've been given a good hiding overall, both in the console and handheld markets.

Plus i'm still not sure why people get so worked up over sales figures, both machines are good in their own ways and have sold a vast ammount of units, it's not like PS3 owners are now superior beings because their favoured console sold more :p

Yep i said the same last year. The 360 has peaked. I don't mean that in a bad way because I have had some great times on it. Picking the wrong format and not including a hard drive from day 1 has halved the 360's shelf life.

The games this year have been dreadfull as well. Rockband is the only highlight so far I can take from 2008.

More and more people will switch over as soon as Sony get some sort of half decent online equivalent.

Xbox Live is killing my love for online gaming.

If the Wii had a decent online gaming service I think it would be the console I used every day. Mario/sonic Olympics, mario strikers etc. I would love to play these games every day against decent competition. Most of my real life friends have grown out of gaming so playing these party games locally isn't really a challenge and half the reason my wii just sits there.

And how would that be? sounds very irrational to me....

Lag. Every god damn game suffers from the same old pap. Get the wrong host and you chasing shadows. Get the right one and your a killing machine.

This was extremely evident in the Cod 4 parties we played. The difference between winning and losing a game was depending on which side of the pond got the host.

I want to be able to chose my region of game search. I want to be given atleast a hope of playing a lag free game.

My best experience now are in co-op game types rather than matches.

If you bundle Xbox Live into the category of 1 feature, the ps3 has many more features that the xbox 360 (Seems silly to list them as they should be apparent to any . Even you, a rabid xbox 360 fan, should be able to acknowledge this :)
