I have a Logitech Sphere (not the MP) webcam which I use to chat to the folks back home in the UK (I am now living in Singapore).

After a rebuild (XP) I installed the latest drivers for the Sphere MP and on coming to the 'now plug in the camera' section, connect the camera. I get a new hardware forund XP box come up but XP cannot find the drivers either locally or online and the Logitech software does not detect the camera.

The Sphere I have is the model before they renamed to Sphere MP but I do not know if there are any other changes apart from name. They only have Sphere MP drivers available for download.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

only suggestion I can think of from previous drivers problems is to do this:

open device manager
right click on the device (I presume its listed as an unkown device)
click on update driver
choose no not this time
choose install from a list of specific location
choose dont search i will choose the driver to install
if you're lucky, the driver may now be listed, select it and click on next to install

I'm guessing you've tried this but thought I would post it anyways, I find if drivers are not WDM drivers xp sometimes ignores them and tries to install a WDM driver, if it fails you end up with an unknown device even though you have the non-WDM but correct driver on your system. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.

Yep tried this but I have no idea where the exe drive package extracts the driver files too so cannot point to them.

These development teams do not like making things easy do they. Ati does it right IMO by extracting to a easily identifyable path so you can recover if it all goes a bit 'pear'.

have you tried plugging the camera into a different usb port? Cant think why this might help but its an easy thing to try, maybe it will force your system into looking properly for the driver again

The system keeps asking for the drivers but it cannot find them. I cannot find them. The 'new hardware found' box comes up when the 'plug the webcam in now' screen comes up for the Logitech drivers and I plug the camera in.

I have found what looks like a directory under a Logitech directory which contians drivers but the add new hardware dialogue will not accept those drivers (I have a Logitech mouse and keyboard so the drivers there may not be for the webcam but are the only Logitech ones I can find).

I tried installing on our second computer and get the same problem although, and this is really weird, when plugging in the webcam to *** front USB socket it causes the PC to shutdown (controlled logoff and shutdown). Same happens on unplugging it. Very strange.
