Hey guys!

Following on from my previous thread I was wondering if anyone would be able to advise me whether a Natwest Maestro debit card is likely to work in cash machines in either of the above countries?

Any idea how I can find out definatively without spanking $20 of phone card calling their call centre?

Thank you!

Mike

get a credit card
accepted everywhere
safer to use
and with an interest free period, nothing to worry about

yes it will ( thailand ) but inform your bank before you go as Thailand has a lot of card fraud and they may block your card if you don't inform them first

They may block it anyway.

The blocking systems are automated and no-one will read the notes until you call to complain. My banks even tell me they can't guarantee my card won't be stopped when I tell them where I'm going.

Saying that, I've never had any problems.

You have to get them to put a note or actually adaption to your record to state you will be away and in which countries when. I did first time, didnt the second so they blocked my cards. Not an easy solution to sort from vietnam I will tell you. Lots of debit machines are about just go to nearest 7/11 and job done.

Also lots of big banks are out and about there so I would not worry too much, well not many uk ones :P

That's rubbish i'm afraid, inform them all you want but they'll still block it!

I had 3 cards blocked, friend had 2, actually i think all my friends that have been over that way have had cards blocked, despite all ringing banks to inform them

though, it's only 10 mins on the phone to unblock it

You should be able to use it in cash machines if you let your bank know the dates you will be out there.

You may not be able to use it for purchases in some places, in Malaysia I had to use my Visa numerous times in shops, but could withdraw monies out with my Maestro.
