Nvidia GTX 280 - IN STOCK NOW!!!

Seen this?

1061 core, 18k on extreme
Thing is though that's all cherry picked hardware given to him by the manufacturers, I've long since stopped trying to base my expectations off "reviews" like that, it just becomes too stressful :p I have neither the time nor the patience to mess about finding the best CPU, sticks of memory, etc among batches of them.

That's not taking anything away from the actual achievements or scores made, just that it's foolish to expect similar results from actual retail kit, imo anyway.

So are these cards 450% faster than the £105 8800GT as the price tag suggests?

Can't see it some how.

A totally unjustified price tag from Nvidia as always.

no but I very much doubt a ferarri F430 is 600% faster than my focus. Thats just not the point is it.

The law of diminishing returns.

The top end never makes sense. In fact why dont you buy a two year old card and play three year old games and save yourself money and time wasted on fancy graphics games with crap gameplay.

In the end every advance in technology is good for all of us even if you dont buy it now it'll be released in a smaller cheaper size sometime in the future.
People who buy top end cards do the entire market good

Is that 'view webpages in 3d' anygood. Ive been waiting 14 years for vrml

The price will be either:

- what people will pay through demand
- what the market forces dictate through competition

Even if it is just for one week, Nvidia have the advantage through no competition - early adopters will pay the premium. If they want to pay it - fine. There's no need to be dismissive of them. Personally I won't pay it - perhaps it would be different if there were 20 killer games out waiting to take advantage of the extra horsepower but there aren't.

Commenting on the OC prices is pointless. People will pay what they will pay. If they don't buy, OC will reduce the prices until they buy in sufficient numbers.

Well I remember the 8800GTX launching and how many people bought one on or close to release day - how many people here have bought a GTX 280 ?

Yeah, limited stock = high prices. Point is ocuk have sold out so how can anybody say they were/are too expensive?

Too expensive means nobody would buy them and it's subjective from person to person.

There are people who spend £1000's every year on the latest computer stuff (not me, my last upgrade was £150, i just buy the stuff from the people who have just upgraded;)).

If it means I can get a cheap Ultra or GX2 then I;m all for people buying GTX280's.

That's a compelling point right there and I now accept it as highly logical !

Think I'll buy two of them, got £1k sitting in my back pocket now... oh yeah, and I'll order my Bugatti Veyron while I'm at it ;-)

Cheers Pug
