Just reading other posts and someone said 15k is a low wage for a 23 year old.
Im 26 got a foundation degree and only gettin 16.5k.

I beleive it was me that said that.....

Really depends on what you are doing.

My benchmark used to be to have a salary greater that age x 1000.

It is now age x2 x1000.

I'm 22 and graduated last year (computer science) and currently on 25k, I don't consider this a high-wage and expect (sorry to sound cocky or whatever, but it's the truth) to be on 30k within the next 2-3 years, more if I decide to apply for new positions within the company I'm currently at.

In later life I'd agree, although I don't think you can really apply that rule to the younger employee/graduates though?

i.e. for me to be on 44k at 22?

A 25 year old to be on 50k?

Of course it's not unheard of, but it's unrealistic to aim for, for 90-99% of the population.

Then again, ambition is ambition :)

I think there have been a few threads recently dealing with the issue of wages and what job people do, and how much they can brag about it.

I think a reasonable wage is what you can afford to live on whilst not suffering with a poor quality of life. As long as you are surviving and having a reasonable time doing so and you and the people close to you are happy and healthy what does it matter?

End of the day people are always going to earn more than you, the guy around the corner will have a larger house, faster car, etc, etc.

To answer your question; I wouldn't get out of bed for less than 150k :)

All depends what type of lifestyle your trying to keep up.

Your doing a lot better than the Billion people on less than a 1$ a day

I'd say a reasonable wage would be enough to live a comfortable life and still have money left over for savings and holidays. It doesn't matter how much you earn you'll always be able to spend it

Agreed with part of that, but when would you say is old enough?

I left uni at 22 on £23k, at 24 I was on £32k, and at 27 am on somewhere between £50k and £60k depending on dividends.

I did badly in my A levels and came out of a uni with a 2:2.

I tend to find it comes down to how hard you push yourself to keep moving on. And I will be the first to admit luck also plays a part!

When I graduated two years ago I was told the average salary after graduating was just under 20k - judging from comments on here and from my mates they pulled that figure from their rear end. There were only two people from my Software Engineering degree that earned over 20k (I was one of them, working near London), most were on 18k starting salaries.

I've just finished my degree (in Police Studies) and am expecting at least a 2:1. Been looking around for jobs with the police (in civilian roles), and the three I'm applying for at the moment are all £22k. There were a few not long ago at £18k but I felt that to be quite low as I've worked hard at my degree and feel I deserve better than that. Will see how things go though.

Are you me 5 years ago?

Currently earning more then I need and hating my job. Eagerly looking to a huge pay cut but for a job I'd love to do.

Depends on circumstances I guess.

I don't know many 25yr olds on £50k

I know quite a few.
However as OC has said numerous times, it depends on what you do.

Aim for age x 1000, once you hit that you need to set a new target, so age2 x 1000.
then age3 x 1000 (almost there!) etc
