Hi,

One of the main tuning methods on my car would be high lift camshafts, now Im told by different sources that:
A) It fill fail on mot due to emissions and being a 51 plate etc
B) It wont fail emissions when it is remapped

so which is correct?

urm what car?

might hep a bit :)

i dont see cams causing you to fail the emissions tbh

106 GTi IIRC.

Correctumundo!

no you will not be failing emissions with cams you would put in a otherwise roadgoing and emissions passing 106 gti.

but tbh would look at some headwork first.

speak to dave baker :) www.pumaracing.co.uk

amazing guy and really knows his stuff.

save your pennies and get some headwork done when your putting cams in for a proper gain :)

I'm thinking that if your thinking cams, it will already have a 'zorst and decat...which unless your very lucky will cause it to fail anyway. Find a friendly MOT tester...
:)

Yeah but I have an "mot" system which I can pop back on when its that time of year, swapping cams would be crazy every 12 months. friendly mot testers are few and far between :(

It will be circa 155bhp with some decent cams and a remap. You NEED a remap after its been cammed since it will run like a bag of ****

Get newman ph3 cams + remap by wayne schofield at chipwizards. Brother has a cammed stripped 106 gti, albeit an older S plate one with the older engine which was actually better, his is 162bhp :)
cams + no remap = mot fail
cams + remap = mot pass

Should get more than 155 surely? catcam 708s are supposed to gain more than that arent they?

I wasnt aware there were any differences in the engines...other than the EGR valve which mine no longer has :D

No, you wont get much more than that sadly unless you go mega with either bvh or TB's, then your looking at touching 170 possibly. Later engines have a different head design and when cammed are not quite as efficient as the early engines. Wayne told me that early ones with high lift cams always are high 150's or low 160's and the later ones get around the mid 150's max. At this point he has prolly tuned over 100 TU 1.6 16v engines
