Does a Blind person dream in pictures?

It's like, can deaf people 'imagine' music?

EDIT: suppose that would rely on them having heard music before...

well imagine how a blind person percieves the world. Im sure they would still have some concept of 3d etc, their mind could still 'imagine' colours and such.

So it would be a mix of the above. I doubt it would just be sound though.

My mother used to help with blind children who were born blind and once told me that they dreamt in shapes.

Yeah, dreams are ususally more vision than sound, i reckon they dream images of sorts. My teachers neice lost their vision after turning 2 years old, he said he was glad they managed to take in all sites and colours and objects ect, so they have some recollection for later. He says after about 2 minutes of being in a room she can walk around objects like bags ect that wouldnt always be there.

Oooh my sig has been edited was kezmo's comment bad?

Same as everyone else mostly. :)

You can only dream based on your waking experiences, so if you've never had any vision, then the brain will have never learned to understand images, so you can't dream them. Same goes for hearing and the other senses.

Well as far as I know, if a person is born blind then they have no concept of sight whatsoever, they don't even "see" black as it were. I was thinking about it they would not even understand what a line or shape looks like just how it feelss.

Geometry wise if if born blind i don't think it would work the same way (duh!!), but i suppose it could be learned what things feel like and how that relates to what they are. Instead of linking groups of images with names etc they would group different touch memories?? My brain hurts.

My mum is registered blind, though she has *some* residual sight. She lost her sight at 6 years old through Meningitis. She has repetitive dreams that involve faceless people, more nightmares really.

Blind people only hear in their dreams if they were born blind however people who have lost their eyesight sometimes still see in their dreams but many loose this after a few years.

I used to know a completely deaf guy who was born this way, he's never heard a sound in his life. He used to come to drum 'n' bass nights with us sometimes and he'd feel the beat of the music, this obviously only works with loud bassy tunes. He would dance completely in time with one hand on his chest feeling the beats that way. Who said deaf people can't enjoy music? :)
