Been trying it out lately on my 32" LCD TV...maximum supported resolution is 1360x768 (720p native tv), and stuff looks pretty sweet on it. It's a shame I can't go higher, and it doesn't seem to support 1280x720 either via VGA weirdly, although it does 720p via hdmi.

Anybody try it on the 720p or 1080p tvs? What resolutions do you guys play it? :O

Lots of TVs don't support their higher resolutions over VGA. Some do, some don't. My Sony doesn't, but the next model up does. You're probably better off just using HDMI anyway really.

just to note, the native resolution is 1366x768, not 720p. you're tv should support that resolution (or 1360x768) over vga. if its not available as standard, you can be pretty sure it can be forced using custom timings either from your graphics card drivers, or using something like powerstrip:)

I try and play at 1080p on my 37" Tosh. In the not to distant future, I'm hoping to do a complete upgrade of my PC and play everything at 1080p.

I do; I've got a 27" 720p screen, cost me £700 in Jan '05. Now can be got for 1/2 that price. :'( But it serves me well, black - black performance isn't good, but it's still going strong, only 1 dead pixel that I've picked up along the way, and I don't even notice it.

Yep been doing that @ 720P for over 1.5 years now on a 40" Samsung.

The size makes such a difference I could never go back to a monitor again for gaming but use a 24" for the web on my other PC.

Thing is that when you sit back on a couch and game on a big screen via a wireless gamepad its so relaxing and even though its only 1366x768 you can have max AA + AF and still get high FPS on almost anything so the whole experience is just amazing and makes the PS3 + X360 look very poor as they lack lots of AF + AA + the screen tearing is just a joke on many high profile games. Current consoles just cannot handle HD gaming as well as the PC although MGS4 does look good in places its still not quite as good as the PC as the textures are not high rez at all.

Cannot wait until Alone In The Dark5 comes out in a few days as those survival horror games are excellent especially on a big screen.

Also gives older games a new lease of life as the size means you can get more out of it as the atmosphere increases and the immersion becomes more intense.

I would recommend every serious PC gamer try it as once you have there is no going back a 24/30" TFT just cannot compete (even if it does have a better response time).

Depending on the HDTV 1366x768 or 1280x720 can be a problem but usually HDMI and setting your TV to just scan should resolve any issues it all depends on if your TV does 1:1 pixel mapping or not if yes then its easy otherwise you may have to use a VGA cable to get 1360x768 and let your TV adjust for the missing 3 pixels either side.

It depends on the game really. I play fps and flight sims on my projector which is nice but I'd still stick with the monitor for strategy games.

I would, if I could get the colours on my TV looking right. I am using DVI -> HDMI, and try as I might I just cannot get the sharpness, tones etc. looking right.

I also occasionally play EvE Online on my 42" LCD but have yet to find a comfortable chiil out position that accomodates the keyboard (or nostromo pad) and mouse. Might have to get in the shed at the weekend and build a couple of armrests that hold the keyboard and mouse and just stand next to the beanbag :)

Depends on the game really. FPS and things like that I much prefer on my monitor.

For mmo's the TV is king, AoC and EVE at 1080p sitting on the couch is supreme :)

anyone use a hdmi to dvi cable for this? or do you have to use a vga cable?

I use DVI to HDMI to play WoW on my 40" 1080p Samsung, works fine.

Digital Signal so it doesn't really matter when converting it with connectors.

I played through COD4 on my lcd hdtv, it was superb and really atmospheric with the surround sound. Since switching to a plasma im a bit more weary about gaming on it though.
