Goalie charged

I can't see too much eating of humble pie by people in this thread who were crucifying him for having no insurance... based on reports in the gutter press.

Oh he did have insurance? Oh silly me, that makes everything ok then. The little matter of drink driving and killing two people should be a mere formality.

How's your humble pie tasting right now? The speeding one that's apparently treated the same as the drunk driving humble pie?

No, based on what he was CHARGED with.

That is the exact point I and others made! We acknowledged he was well out of order if he was guilty of everything he was charged with, but we said we should wait and see what transpired, because there were various reasons why it might be thought he had no insurance. When I and others said this, we were attacked by the baying mob.

judge in appropriate sentence shocker

Shame he has to be a high profile footballer to get something more like. If only they would "make an example" of everybody like this :(

Anyone worth that much money should be able to score a goal from the next county.

Football is far too commercial these days, having a place name in the club's name is irrelevant.

They should all be kicked back onto the street.

(no, I'm not a football fan).

I'd expect him to serve around 5 years, which would effectively mean he has no chance of playing football professionally again.

I feel really sorry for the family of the two children who have had to go through torture for the past 4+ months and this will not get much easier over the coming years.

Let's hope this proves as an example to other footballers that professional footballers are not invincible.

All that money, he could have stayed over in Bolton but nope, why anyone would want to not plan a weekend away and drive back so early and over the limit.

If I remember a lot of posters in this thread were saying because he's high profile he'll get a short sentence so make your mind up.

Are you sure. Lee Hughes served 3 years and resumed his career on release, and he was a striker. As a keeper he could play on until his late thirties, so could easily play again at 28 as he will serve 3 and a half years.

For all we know the father was tired, kids were annoying him and he changed lanes without checking his mirrors, bounced off the range rover and left the road.

The simple fact of the matter though is as the footballer was over the limit he's going to be strung up for it, it may not be fair but life often isn't.

If you don't want to play 'find the soap' at her majesty's pleasure be very careful of drinking, including the night or day before.

Edit: Ahh, very old thread - found the final news link and it says he fell asleep at the wheel, with 2 hours sleep and a skinful that's hardly surprising.

A sad end but it makes you think - I've got on the motorway and felt I was dozing off before, thankfully there's always been a services not too far ahead and I've not been in a rush

If that were the case, why did the footballer admit he fell asleep at the wheel? Other motorists have stated he was driving like an idiot and he was over the limit. The balance of probabilities are very strongly in favour of him causing the accident, and the jury agree.

Not fair? It's not fair that two children are now dead and their father is in a wheel chair.
