I think my PS3 has kicked the bucket just as my 360 did a few months ago! I was playing MGS4 before tea and turned it off while i ate, then i go to play again and when i turn the PS3 on i get an error (cant remember which). I just ignored it and pressed circle to go back and now it wont pick up any games, DVD's or Blu Rays?! I have tried everything and all i can guess is that the laser has gone! Do the PS3's have a warranty where i have to send it some where for months to get it fixed or can i just take it back to the "station" and get it swapped seeming as i only brought this one back in November?

Another one bites the dust, *dum* *dum* *dum*, and another one does, and another one does and another one bites the dust.

Phone Sony or take it back from whence it came.

Lazer Failure.

This is cropping up a lot now. Give it a year and this is going to be on par with the RRoD.

While i am the first to admit that the lazer failures are at an unacceptable rate, i very much doubt it'll be able to match the RROD.

Phone Sony, they're really quick with replacements apparently, make sure you backup those saves!

well we have had a lot in with this problem lately, mostly 40 gig machines i see it on.

saying that i still have a 20gig jap machine going strong :)

What happens if this happens to my 60GB machine? will they be able to just replace the disc drive or would I end up with a shoddy 40GB for a replacement?

Thats a surprise, I was under the thinking taht the PS3 was pretty much the safest console of the new gen stuff on the market?

Is it just the BR Lasers?

The wii is the safest, but that is unsurprising as it uses last gen hardware (if you ignore the controller of course). At present the PS3 is still reliable enough to consider it a 'safe' purchase, its failure rates are well within what standards consider acceptable (i would say anything above 1% was unacceptable but that's just me).

Sorry yea, I meant for leatest Gen stuff, I thought it did very well condiering how much is brand new in it!?

Didnt the early PS2's suffer rather badly from failing lenses and lasers?

Yeah, iirc it was pretty much on par with the RROD failure rate, though i've still got my launch PS2 working (it did go a bit iffy a couple of months ago but it seems to have fixed itself)

Just wondering if the longer pre-loading times for some of the newer games could be adding to the problems?

I have a 360, but a purchase of a PS3 is on the cards when I get a HD screen.
