Anyone having a similar problem to this. When I cold boot my PC, it will never enter the POST or BIOS, each time I want to start it up I have to clear my CMOS every time. I have already upgraded the BIOS to 1.1 and the same thing is happening. My Motherboard is MSI P7N Diamond nForce 780i SLi. Any ideas on how to solve this?

so if everythings stock and you reboot it won't post ?

check to see what voltage your ram is rated at, and check adjust it in the bios to match.

I been caught out before because my ram wasnt getting enough voltage

Yeah thats what I thought it was still a bit dodgy when everything was at stock and my memory voltage was set at 2.1v.

My OC settings are

CPU Voltage: 0.05000v
DRAM Voltage: 2.1v
NB Voltage: 1.375v
SB Voltage: 1.525v
NB Memory Reference: Auto
DIMM Memory Reference: 1.075v
Memory Terminator: 1.075v
CPU GTL Reference: 0.882v
NB GTL Reference: 0.882v
FSB Terminator: 1.302v

These were provided by a mate and with these I got my Q6600 up to 3GHz, very stable but with that boot problem.

hmmz strange, might be worth trying to re flash the bios if you haven't got the latest one or if you have, maybe a re-flash ?

EDIT just read your first post re bios...(try it anyway)

I had a very similar problem when I had to press the case on/off switch at least 5 or 6 times before it would boot up. It could not be resolved by Ocuk, so I eventually RMA'd it and have now got the EVGA 780i.

I have tried flashing the BIOS again and no help.

Also When I run everything stock settings, it loads up fine but anytime I open large programs such as games etc, my PC resets itself just like if you press the reset button.

Could something like this be caused by under voltage to the processor or memory?

At default settings they are

CPU Voltage: Auto
DRAM Voltage: 2.1v
NB Voltage: Auto
SB Voltage: Auto
NB Memory Reference: Auto
DIMM Memory Reference: Auto
Memory Terminator: Auto
CPU GTL Reference: Auto
NB GTL Reference: Auto
FSB Terminator: Auto

also at stock my Q6600 runs at 1.3v. Does there have to be any ratio between the CPU voltage/NB Voltage/SB Voltage that I'm not aware of?

Sorry to threadjack a little bit, But can i ask you smackhead, what kinda cpu cooler you have with your setup. I have the same motherboard and cpu and am not sure what cpu cooler to get, as there is a small space for it to go, because of the Circu-pipe on the motherboard.

zenmor

For your information, I know that the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro will fit your setup as I use this cooler and I have had it fitted in this case with 3 different types of 780i motherboards . This includes the MSI Diamond. I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot GunRunner, That was one of the ones on my shortlist since it looked like a good mix of small size and power. Its nice to know it will fit.

Well its smaller then lots of the other ones on my shortlist :)
And thanks for the link to the review, i be sure to check it out.

Yeah it's a common problem with ALL MSI motherboards.

I had it happen with both of my NEO2 (nFORCE 3) boards and my NEO4 Diamond (nFORCE 4 SLI 16x)

I will never buy an MSI motherboard ever again.
