The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed about 250.000 people and became

Because we where not the ones trying to invade other countrys. What a stupid statement.

But it was over the other side of the world... it didnt effect us or the americans at all, we arent the ones to police the world you know. And as for the worry that an expended Japan would have threatened the US interest in the pacific, we will never know what might have happened if we gave Japan space, we just decided to go to war instead.

the Japanese attacked America first, and declared war on them? o.O

I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying, but its remarkably similar to the thinking of Islamic Fundemantalists and how they justify 9/11, 7/7 etc to put it into a modern day scenario.

This is something I too have had trouble reconciling. I suspect it is all a matter of perspective.

Lol, this thread is so lacking in facts its unreal, its all Wednesday afternoon bull**** anyway, hell im only arguing cos im bored, i dont care in the slightest, theres nothing that can be done now is there.

of course there can't but we have to remember and learn from the past, so history doesn't repeat itself.

But I hope if there's a similar situation, we save the most by ending the war early.

so what countrys did we try to invade in ww2? we where just trying to defend ourself and our allies.

You missed my point I was saying that some people NOT YOU are blinded about the past and because of modern politics are cynical of any thing America has done and will automatically put the blame on them.

Sorry, I did completely misunderstand you :)

Well yeah, if you lay it all on the table like that i cant argue against it much as i'd like to. I'd make the same decision as well, but i'd have to make sure i had evey single availible information before i made it.

I wish it were that simple. Britain had already claimed an Empire, including much of Asain. The Americans too, despite their attempt to rewrite history, had expanded into Asia. Japan was critically short of natural resources and was thwarted by the West when they attempted to build their own Empire. They saw this as gross hypocracy from the West. It is generally excepted that it was the US oil imbargo on Japan than caused her to attack Pearl Harbour.

From a Japanese perspective, their invasion of China and subsequent attack on the Pearl Harbour and Malaya was no different from the various land grabs that the West had conducted. We were not so much defending ourselves, but defending our possessions.

Huh, interesting, thanks. I guess you have to look at this stuff from as many perspectives as you can to get the full picture.

And ofc history affects the modern day, our actions are the culmination of all our past experiences and knowledge. When you think of germany today dont you unconciously give them a negative slant? I know i do and im about the least prejudiced person i know.

so a force taht is willing to fight to *** death. Very hard to negotiate land and landing points. Hum no I can see how a full on war could have cost less lifes. Don't be so silly. It was the lesser of two evils. In fact if Japan just surrender. There wouldn't of been any fighting.

Rubbish your right, My brain must be on holiday. I was thinking of Chernobyl. Another epic fail.

You seem to have missed this....

No they offered a partial surrender, which wasn't good enough.

You also seem to be missing the "appear" "convinced" and other such words.

Hell no, is it modern Germany that did those things? NO. So I don't give them any negative slant, there's hardly any of them alive and certainly none in any power.

Do you give Italians a negative slant as well due to the Roman empire?
