Whats an resonable wage?

I think a lot of people often forget that the age * 1000 rule doesn't apply to everywhere in the country.

I'm lead programmer and SEO consultant for a web design company here in Tenby.
I get < £13,000 a year...

are you a pants lead programmer or have you no ambition to progress? or do you only work very part time?

the age * 1000 rule is relevent any and every where in the country if that is your target.

LEAD PROGRAMMER for a company in Tenby, how many programmers are there? 2?

I'd say a reasonable wage would be enough to live a comfortable life and still have money left over for savings and holidays. It doesn't matter how much you earn you'll always be able to spend it

dose comfortable mean owning a house/appartment? this seems beyond the reach of most young people these days.

at 25K the avg house price (200k) is 8 times earnings

I made no claims that I'm the greatest in the world, but I'm certainly not pants.

It just simply isn't, no job in this region will apply to that age * 1000 role.

Nowhere around here pays over £20k per annum

The average wage around here is around £10k - £11k

What I earn is considered a "good" wage around here.

rubbish. you dont need to be working for a local employer, i would imagine there are plenty of companies in need of programmers who certainly aren't pants but need to work from home.

So it simply is, you just don't have the ambition to aim for the age * 1k rule.

My ambition is quite high thank you. If there truly are companies out there that would allow you to work from home that would make the age * 1k rule apply, that aren't just companies spamming job centre sites then please show me - as I honestly wasn't aware of this.

The only times I've seen this would appear (as I said) to be companies doing the whole "Work from home, for 20 hours a week and earn £40-£50,000 a year doing so!" crap that gets flooded on job sites.

You could put the whole, "Well move to somewhere that pays that much cash", but surely cost of living would follow the rule as well?

I lead a comfortable life, no debts, I buy a fair whack of gadgets and can afford "luxuries" when I want them.

I don't see how me not earning £22,000 per annum means I have no ambition?

Edit:
Sorry I realise you meant ambition to earn the age * £1k rule.

My point is still valid though. In that, that rule does not apply country wide. As I said, this area (I would go so far as saying 80% of Pembrokeshire) is incredibly hard to find jobs that are over £20,000.

Its all relative.

I don't earn anywhere near this age*1000 "rule". I doubt I ever will. Lack of ambition? Yes, because I am financially secure with the wage I receive, and I have an incredible passion for what I do. There isn't a single day where I don't want to go to work and in fact last year I only took 7 days leave, excluding national holidays.

To me, enjoying my work is much more important than the salary I earn. I have been in well-paid jobs that I absolutely hated, and as long as I can earn enough to pay the mortgage, bills and put the food on the table, I am happy to forgo a high salary for a better working life.

If all you do is look in the job centre then you will struggle to find a better paid job. there is no doubt plenty of contract and perm work from home stuff out there, head off to any of the normal websites for IT based jobs and you might see some (cant say how many as its not an area of IT that i normally search).

Nobody can argue with that in the slightest :]

Im on 15k, which is 232 quid after tax etc, then take 60 quid a week of for fuel [80 mile round trip a day], I have to run a car, house, family, etc. I would like more but its not going to happen :D

Not that I am working, but I would imagine I could live very happily off £25k a year, so I assume that is a very reasonable wage.

I guess you also do not own a home or run a car or have kids or rent?
Until you do, you cant say how much a year you would be happy with :p
