Its doesn't apply anyway. Its just a nice target to have.
I think a lot of people often forget that the age * 1000 rule doesn't apply to everywhere in the country.
I'm lead programmer and SEO consultant for a web design company here in Tenby.
I get < £13,000 a year...

I'd say a reasonable wage would be enough to live a comfortable life and still have money left over for savings and holidays. It doesn't matter how much you earn you'll always be able to spend it
That is not keeping spending to a minimum though. Not if you live in London with a London-sized mortgage and 3 kids. Trust me, I know...![]()
dose comfortable mean owning a house/appartment? this seems beyond the reach of most young people these days.
at 25K the avg house price (200k) is 8 times earnings
are you a pants lead programmer or have you no ambition to progress? or do you only work very part time?
the age * 1000 rule is relevent any and every where in the country if that is your target.
I made no claims that I'm the greatest in the world, but I'm certainly not pants.
It just simply isn't, no job in this region will apply to that age * 1000 role.
Nowhere around here pays over £20k per annum
The average wage around here is around £10k - £11k
What I earn is considered a "good" wage around here.
rubbish. you dont need to be working for a local employer, i would imagine there are plenty of companies in need of programmers who certainly aren't pants but need to work from home.
So it simply is, you just don't have the ambition to aim for the age * 1k rule.
My ambition is quite high thank you. If there truly are companies out there that would allow you to work from home that would make the age * 1k rule apply, that aren't just companies spamming job centre sites then please show me - as I honestly wasn't aware of this.
The only times I've seen this would appear (as I said) to be companies doing the whole "Work from home, for 20 hours a week and earn £40-£50,000 a year doing so!" crap that gets flooded on job sites.
To me, enjoying my work is much more important than the salary I earn. I have been in well-paid jobs that I absolutely hated, and as long as I can earn enough to pay the mortgage, bills and put the food on the table, I am happy to forgo a high salary for a better working life.
It's "a reasonable wage".
Not that I am working, but I would imagine I could live very happily off £25k a year, so I assume that is a very reasonable wage.
I guess you also do not own a home or run a car or have kids or rent?
Until you do, you cant say how much a year you would be happy with![]()
