Just a theoretical question here to solve an argument.

Say I own a car and my friend asks to borrow it and I lend it to them believing they have their own insurance for it and hold a driving licence. They then get pulled over by the police and it turns out they don't have insurance or a licence., now does any of the responsibility come down to me and will I get in trouble, also will my car be crushed or simply impounded meaning I just have to go and claim it?

Now I'm pretty sure I would take none of the responsibility and simply pick my car up from the impound/police station, am I right?

You must take reasonable steps to satisfy yourself anyone using your car is insured to do so. If you do not, you could be guilty of causing/permitting someone to drive without insurance.

6 points and fine as you are equally guilty as the person driving.

There was someone on here a while ago who drove a sick friend home in her car thinking he had DOC and got pulled and they both got charged if memory served.

Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law.

Not to mention if my chum stacks it I want fully comp so I get my car replaced / fixed

Hmmmm, I've let a few people drive my car who've told me they were insured via DOC but not checked their cert. So if they weren't actually insured and got pulled but admitted to the police that they told me they were, would I likely be let off?

If they tell you they are insured this is usually enough to avoid being charged with permitting an offence to occur.
