3.93 GB of memory

i have 4 X 1GB of DDR2 BalistiX memory and for some reason now windows vista has started saying i have 3.93 GB of memory instead of 4...

any ideas :S

a lot of the time, windows doesnt correctly report the amount of RAM in your system. Don't worry about it, its only .07 off anyway

You using 64bit or 32?

no. honestly, its just a counting error, it happens All the time. you've got all your memory and it works just fine, so there's no problem

I have 3 gigs installed and it reports that I have 2.75... I'm guessing this is correct as well?

Should not read wrong period in 64bit.

Bios got remapping setting or such ?

Peep in post #1 has 64bit though

In 32bit you should see 3GB unless you have onboard Graphics which is stealing some of you Memory.

Vista - where everything's possible (unfortunately in the bad way).

It's 4gb minus all the I/O devices, mainly graphic cards there.
So let's say if his GPU is 512mb , he should see about ~3.5gb ram, if GPU is 1gb then there will be about 3gb left.

@ PhoenixUK I do actually know that.

I was meaning if you fit 3GB (not 4GB) in XP32 you would see all 3GB unless you had onboard Graphics which would steal some Memory.

The OP has stated he has 64bit so I assume something is taking a slice of his Memory.

It should say this, there is not glitch where it does not state it.

EDIT : I was trying to answer to many peeps in here, I'm back to the OP only.

Install 2GB or 3GB and see if it is exactly that or is some still missing.
