LPG - Worth it?

I considered this but on anything worth driving (that'd be an ST220 for you lot:P) it was still only 200 cheaper than a lower insurance diesel over 20k a year so wouldn't justify the conversion costs over anything like a reasonable time scale for me. You loose up to 20% mpg compared to petrol depending on the car but on something like a petrol rav it's almost down to 10%. I'd honestly say use an approved installer though or at least speak to one before hand, our local agent has been fitting kits for 9 years and has done all sorts including scoobys etc with good results, he was quite happy to talk us through the options and steer us in the direction of a better donor veichle for conversion, even offered to let us come down and have a look at his or his wifes car's to see what the install/performance difference was like.

I've had three lpg cars in recent times and I'm seriously ****** with myself for not converting my current car.

Yes, it's worth it. Everytime. No question. But.....

Get it done by an approved installer who can give you a certificate. Your insurance company will require sight of this and you will need it when you come to sell the car.

Consumption and power loss: There's a great deal of carp talked about lpg in relation to this. The larger the engine, the less the drop in consumption and power loss. With something like a 4l 4x4, there would be barely any noticeable difference. It would only be a factor at or below 2l and then not enough to worry about.

Have a read of the latest edition of EVO magazine.

They do a group test of a Megane 225 LPG, Mini Cooper D, Fiat Panda 100HP, an Alpina, Brabus Smart etc etc.

The Megane 225 LPG wins for driveability, fuel economy and cost....

Pretty extraordinary that a car with the performance and driveability of the 225 gives better fuel economy cost wise than a Cooper D, Panda etc.

LPG for the win.
