There are a lot of places in the UK I would like to visit, some coastal and some inland and I enjoy camping and would rather be in my own sturdy tent than someone elses dirty hotel/B&B/Static caravan at extortionate rates (Admittedly, not all are dirty).

Have thought of getting a Caravan but in my opinion, unless your spending the cost of a good car, you get diddly squat for your money and personally, when going away, I like to experience something different.

So, when asking around, not many people I know go camping, many turn their noses up.

Have been looking at this:

With one of these:

Look cool.

When I lived in England I used to go camping all the time.

In Australia... I'd love to but the thought of waking up with a dirty great spider/snake/(one of the many things that'll kill you in Oz) stuck to my face is putting me off.

Several times a year if I can

That tent looks good but I'm sure you could spend a bit less if you wanted to and still get something decent.

Having visited a second hand caravan place at the weekend my perception of caravans has improved - some actually feel quite spacious inside, and second hand they're quite affordable too.

Are you joking? Paying that much for a tent?

£20 in Netto for a 4 man tent, get yourself down there, buy a few of those and some proper thermal sleeping bags. No need for that fancy crap, you may aswell stay at home if you're going to take a mansion out to camp in :o

Depends what your using them for I guess... I wouldnt like to be in the netto tent if some rough weather kicked in on an open field.

Then again, theyre not designed for that so maybe not.

I agree the tent is a little on the large side, and although not a fan of larger tents I do like that one and so does Mrs Moo which is a bonus.. getting her camping AT ALL is a bonus to be honest.. and what with kids and pets and the rest of the stuff which goes with them, will be nice to have the room :)

LOL i'd say somewhere inbetween Netto and the ultra tent is right. Otherwise you may as well get a caravan :p

The wife and I used to go camping several times a year - sometimes just the two of us and sometimes as a group of four with her sister and other half.

Like anything else, when the weather's hot it's great, although I'm reminded of one year when, in our enthusiasm, the four of us went away at Easter - it was an early Easter like we had this year - only for the extended weekend to throw every conceivable type of weather at us, rain, hail, sleet, snow. As a result it turned the field into a mudbath and culminated in a howling gale one night that scared the **** out of the lot of us - we were expecting the tent to rip or blow away at any minute. The next day we said "Bugger that ..." and hired one of the site's static caravans for the remainder of our stay ...

The last time we camped was actually on our honeymoon - a lot of people sneered at us for that, but we didn't give a monkey's - as far as we were concerned we were together and away from work! It was while we were on that honeymoon that we made the decision to buy a boat and keep it on the Norfolk Broads - since then we've also bought a static caravan on the Broads. We love the area and it doesn't bother us being tied to one part of the country.

However, if we didn't now have the boat and caravan, then I've no doubt that we would still be going camping - we both had family camping holidays when we were younger, so we've kind of been brought up with it. We both live and work in a rat-race, so part of the appeal must also be in the sheer contrast.

Weather permitting, it still appears to be a popular form of holiday - the site where we've got our static van also has a pair of fields for tents and touring caravans and during the hot spell in April last year there wasn't a pitch to be had.

Me and a few uni mates do it a few times a year to a place called Abersoch, to the same camp site, we all do something to do with computers, so its nice just to get away sit around drink and chat without some electric machinary joining in with out interection, but its always nice to get back here after it though...

me the wife and the kids(Aged 2 & 3) went not long ago to scarborough camping , for the 1st time in 10 years. everyody had a great time and we plan to do it again soonish.

when i can guarantee the weather is going to be suitable ;)

We have started camping this year. Had our first holiday in the cotswolds during whitson week, so that was rather wet and windy. But we are off to France for two weeks, end of july, so cant wait! :)

The only time i slept in a tent is surrounded by 100,000 people in a festival. I don't really see the attraction in it really, it's not comfortable, its cold and i don't fancy crapping in the bushes.

I love camping, just started Climbing again and planning a trip away to wales to climb and camp for a few days. Normally I'm just fishing in my Bivvie, which is sort of camping I suppose!

That's a hell of a lot to spend on a tent! I reckon you could get one as big from Milletts etc for less than £200. My friend has one that size and I doubt you'd need the kid's room as well. Basically two compartments at each end and a living area in the middle, the side and end doors prop up into a canopy which gives you more space again. Tents that size and shape are quite versatile. Weather protection is also very good in a tent that big and being able to stand up and walk around inside makes it easier to bear when it's raining. Just watch out because it packs down to something about the size of a small dustbin, so it'll take up quite a lot of space in the car.

Get some air beds and some nice warm sleeping bags and you'll be laughing.
