Modern driving game that's not atrocious?

I just got my paws on Grid.
Without doubt, the best looking driving game ever.
Also, without doubt the worst handling, most unrealistic pile of donkey vomit ever written.
If doing 0-150 in 3 seconds in a GT1 (or LMGT1, not sure what spec GT's run to in ALMS/ELMS) wasn't bad enough, I nearly spat coffee into my monitor while sipping during a race load.......
"Fastest speed: 187MPH, Dallara Formula 3"

Oh FFS, it's an F3 car, how could they spend so much time and effort making the cars and tracks look so accurate and beautiful, and not bother researching their performance?
And as for cornering, mariokart is more realistic.

And don't START me on the collisions.

It's even worse than DIRT.

SO, is there ANYTHING around that I've missed, that has the same standard of Graphics, but which actually simulates racing cars instead of just making an FPS engine pretend badly?

I've got.....
GTR1+2
GPL (ten years on and still the benchmark)
GTL
Rfactor
LFS
RB Rally
etc etc.

Any thoughts?

The only think that might look better than the games u got is Race07 (only based on the fact thats its newer than others as i've not played it)

U may also try TDU but thats more of arcade racer as well, tho on hard core mode is more realistic but u have to play through normal mode b4 u unlock it.

Have u read any review of GRID b4 u bought the game? Cos reviews i read clearly say its arcade racer and ppl that like simulators should either stay away or take is as that.

OK, I did mention I wanted a SIMULATION.

Never seen one on a console.
I do enjoy GT4 though, a lot of fun, and quite pretty even at console res.But it's hardly a sim, after a weekend of solidly bashing at it, I leapt into my trusty 1988 Mclaren, and couldn't get it round a single corner, because I'd gotten used to tramping on the pedals and wrenching the steering.

Played PG, seemed to handle quite a lot like GRID really, masses of grip, and too much speed.

PG also seemed to be fantasy tracks largely, not really interested in those.

The other thing about console games is you cannot add tracks and cars.

I've got Race07, bought it on steam. A little unrealistic, but makes up for it with exceptional AI's and wonderful G effects (particularly in the single seaters).

Tried TDU, yeah, kinda arcadey, and couldn't really work out what to do either ;)

Who said I bought Grid. After the last version of RaceDriver I tried (which still had the ToCA branding), which I did buy, and found that I could lap Brand's Hatch in a BTCC Vectra in 6th gear with only a single lift for Druids....this one was a "try before buy" job if you catch my meaning.
It'll be moving to the recycle bin today. Hurray for bittorrent, can you honestly see HMV taking the game back on the grounds of it being misrepresented as a driving game.

GRID isn't meant to be an uber realistic simulator, so I think it's a little unfair to treat it as one.

And while we're at it - you should have read the reviews to be quite honest.

LFS or R-Factor are the best in terms of physics (Although i've never played R-Factor!)

LFS looks pretty good once you've downloaded high res textures, S3 will hopefully bring HDR, rain etc.

Rfactor is exceptionally good.

I didn't know about high res textures for LFS, must check into that, it's physics model is very very good indeed, but has "moments". I've also had it reverse the FF direction after a big shunt.

I didn't expect Grid to be wonderful, but as I said, it's so weird that they went to all that trouble to make the cars look good, and then just dashed the handling up in an afternoon, assigning performance to vehicles at random.
Is VERRRRY pretty though.

Might want to look into iRacing. Other than that though you seem to already have all the top sims. Have you got all the best mods for rFactor?

But isn't that what arcade racers are all about? Tee hee next time you'll be less silly :D

Nothing springs to mind. best bet would be to go here & download Teddie's interior cam mod :

And also play around with the grip levels on each track in GRID. Ruins the AI apparently, but makes the cars handle a bit more ' realistically ' :

And lastly, this one gets rid of most of the overdone tinting / bloom on some tracks :

Completely agree with your thoughts on GRID. Its rubbish.

Don't think your really going to get any better than what you have there, unless however you go down to Gran Turismo / Forza.

Its an arcade game. The devs have stated this isnt a sequel to TOCA 3, this is a new direction. A good one to be honest. I have heard good things about RFACTOR though. I like GRID, its just pure racing, ok granted some bits and bobs are a bit on the edge of arcadey and leaning more towards 'plain stupid' but its a good little blast....
