Hello. Before Sunday my system was running fine on a mild overclock. My system is a [email protected], P965 DS3, 2GIG of Ballistix's 6400, 8800GT, win XP SP3.

I was using the 169.02's for ages, for about 5 months with no troubles. I decided to update my GC drivers to see if I could get a few more fps out of Mass Effect. I decided on the 174.74's WHQL and got them from GURU 3d. During the uninstalltion of my old drivers I had weird DOS box pop up saying something like 'unable to uninstall driver' or something similar, but it seemed to uninstall ok.

At first I tried to install 175.16 but it came up with a box saying no nvidia card exists on this PC so it couldn't install the drivers. I then downloaded the 174.74's and installed. During installation just before reboot all the colours of windows went red, yellow and blue, sort of 8-bit type. Anyway after reboot the colours were fine. Played some games and all seemed fine but when I was surfing the web I got a BSOD and my PC reset. I panicked and uninstalled the drivers straight away and used driver cleaner in safe mode before reverting back 160.02's.

I thought all was ok but on shut down tonight I got another stop error, which I managed to capture.

***STOP: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0x8056ca2e, 0xf78b9e30, 0x00000000).

I will do a memtest tomorrow but I'm thinking maybe it had something to do with those drivers. I hope my card is ok.

What do you think?

Edit - Oh yeah I also found a trojan in the temporary internet files folder ,which I deleted. That was on the day of my first BSOD. I've also found that original BSOD.

***STOP: 0x100000d1 (0x000000ac, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x897123ff).

Thanks.

i believe 175.16 is the latest official drivers from nvidia. best to stick to the proper officials from nvidias site and leave the beta testing to others.

I very much doubt that BETA drivers can damage your card. As already mentioned, download the latest directly from Nvidia's site.
