Burger King launches £95 burger...

We are all falling for it, this is a pubicity stunt. They don't expect to sell many of these, but obviously you can bet that a few die hard Burger King nut will try it. It's not really a source of profit for burger king, but they are not going to lose money if they do sell it obviously.

"This is just a PR stunt, even more absurd than the coffee costing virtually as much as a semi-detached house in Crewe."

hahahahahaha

The White truffle or Alba Truffle (Tuber magnatum) comes from the Langhe area of the Piedmont region in northern Italy and, most famously, in the countryside around the city of Alba. It is also found in Croatia, on the Istria peninsula in the Motovun forest alongside Mirna river [9]. Growing symbiotically with oak, hazel, poplar and beech and fruiting in autumn, they can reach 12cm diameter and 500g, though are usually much smaller. The flesh is pale cream or brown with white marbling.[8] Like the French black truffles, Italian white truffles are very highly esteemed (illustration, right). The white truffle market in Alba is busiest in the months of October and November. The Tuber magnatum truffles sell between €2,000 and €4,000 per kilogram ($1350 - $2700 per pound). They produce a scent that mimics a male pig sex hormone,[citation needed] and for this reason, female pigs have been used historically in Europe to help find truffles. However, more recently, dogs have become preferred for truffle hunting since they can be trained to just find the truffles whereas sows eat the truffles as soon as they find them.

The record price paid for a single white truffle was set in December 2007, when Macau casino owner Stanley Ho paid $330,000 (£165,000) for a specimen weighing 1.5kg (3.3lb), discovered by Luciano Savini and his dog Rocco. One of the largest truffles found in decades, it was unearthed near Pisa and sold at an auction held simultaneously in Macau, Hong Kong and Florence.[10]

The Tuber magnatum pico White truffle is mostly found in northern and central Italy, while the Tuber borchi, or Whitish truffle, is found in Tuscany, Romagna and the Marche. Neither of these is as aromatic as those from Piedmont.

Just looks like a daft marketing campaign to me for some free advertising from the media.
And, given the cost to them to make these burgers; the extra people coming into BK to have a look will increase normal food sales and make them a profit.

oh and that civet coffee thing recently was nonsense, i've had civet coffee before, it was vvv nice but it certainly didn't cost anywhere near £50/cup (and yes it was genuine)

"The Burger is an extension of Burger King's quality burger menu and is aimed at burger aficionados, looking for the ultimate burger taste experience."

lol, i didnt know there was such thing.. i thought BK was always packed to the brim with chav scum scrounging off the state. with nothing better to do at 1 in the afternoon than spend our money on a 95 quid burger.

No thankyou, waste of good ingredients. The guy is obviously not a very good cook, he's going on price not taste. Hence load of *******s.

I wouldn't really spend £95 on a plate of food unless we were talking some seriously good italian pasta or something.
And not a gourmet portion a man portion, never again will I go to a gourmet restaurant, I had to stop and buy dinner on the way home.

Deadi, the coffee is a vietnamise delicacy, ie. Something for a load of city nobs to say "oh yes I like that, very musky"

It was only available at BK outside Gloucester Road tube station yesterday, just happened to be passing by there yesterday. Didn't see anyone taking the offer up though.

I think you've made a bit of a harsh generalisation there. I went to the square in london a few weeks ago and after having the a la carte menu (3 courses + about 3 amuse bouche's etc.) i was absolutely stuffed. I even had to turn down bread, and that's not like me! I can't say i've ever been to a top quality restaurant and came away hungry, even when doing tasting menu's consisting of a large number of small plates, in fact i usually get to the end barely able to get up out of my chair :D

Civet coffee may be loved by city nobs but it certainly is very good. It's another thing like Foie, Wagyu or truffle, it might well be expensive and loved by the rich but there is a reason for that!
