Im currently using Nike Slingshot irons, which im very happy with. However last year i purchased Slazenger K1 however with new rulings it was not eligible to use in competitions so the shop swapped it for a TaylorMade R5XL Driver which i think is rubbish.

Now i drive a long way, so i want something  currently im looking at pref 10.5 regular

Callaway FT-i Driver
Nike SQ Sumo2 5900 Driver
Taylor Made Tour Burner Driver

I would also like a new putter any suggestions? I play of 9 handicap as indicator.

I'm using King Cobra F Speed 1 and 5R just now.

Driver is 10.5 R with a stupidly light shaft.

Hitting 240 with the 5, 275 with my 3w which is rediculously old, 300ish with the driver.

I love the feel of the King Cobra's so maybe look at the 2008 range?

:)

I use Callaway X-20's at the moment. Had a blast on the new Taylormade but could not get on with it as much. Although love their putters!!
If you go to a decent shop with the computer screens and demo's you should be able to find the perfect club. It's all in the flex etc ;)

Drivers are a wonderful thing but very personal to each individual. We can all stand here and advise you what are the best to get but without hitting one I wouldn't want to recommend something you may not get on with.

I play with a Cobra F Speed (9.0) and swear by it, others struggle with it. I am not a fan of the new Cobra series drivers, I struggled with them at the range.

I'd suggest going to a local pro shop and having a look.

As for putters, what style would you like? Mallet, Blade, 2 ball, 3 ball? I use a Scotty Cameron Newport, awesome putter but expensive. The Odyssey range are very good as are the Mizuno Betinardi range.

Kai,
I have the Mizuno MP 600, had it from new in December thanks to the golf monthly mag, free as I was trialling it for a feature.
It is a very well designed driver with non removeable swing fast track weights which are purely designed to aid draw and fade, not fight it. It makes a solid engineered crack off the teebox with no cobra-like boomy thump.
I was hitting my Srixon w506 around 260ish but knew i was sacrificing distance due to the silly over stiff shaft (cut at the small end). Having measured my drives using google earth for several weeks at the same holes, regardless of weather, wind against/for/across etc my drives are back up around the 280-290 average with some of the 300-330 par 4's being in reach again. I can play it with a draw, fade, straight (sometimes) so to me it seems like a very versatile driver for us single figure handicappers and my goal of returning back to 6.0 is looking more and more likely after a bad previous year.

Heres a comparison of the older 450 srixon vs the 460cc Mizuno.

I used to be of the belief that only titleist, nike, calaway and TM made decent drivers. Add Mizuno onto that list.
My driver is a Mizuno mp 600 9.5 degree with a stiff Fujikura shaft for what its worth.

The best thing you could do is go and visit a recommended club fitter. They should have access to most of the fitting carts (TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping, Nike) where they have roughly 20 differen't head types in each and dozens of shafts. The guy should hook you up to a launch monitor and using that to get you into the rough launch speed/angle/smash factor that should then allow him to make some recomendations which he can then watch you with the good old Mk1 eyeball and give you his opinion on which shaft/head combination is best for your swing/shot shape.

Slightly off-topic...

They exchanged your old K1 for an R5XL? They should have swapped it for the new legal K1 FAST.

Yeah thats what they changed it for  Im going to go for fitting at a local shop see if i can get some advice for the fitting.

Get one fitted for you, or at the very least go and test some out and find which one you like.

I may hit a XXXXXXXL Stiff shaft with a 2.0 degree loft 400yards dead straight - then I may hit a regular shafted 13 degree driver 150 yards with a wicked slice *this is more appropriate for me :)

i have the taylor made super quad and love it - great driver and can be configured to suit your swing with the moveable weights.

Also check out Scotty Cameron putters - i bought mine about 12 months ago and best thing i ever did - love it - not cheap @ £150 or so but great classic putter.

If something a bit wacky but works well - local pro was saying he's sold tons of the taylor made spyder putter - look horrible but work really well

Still using my 15 year old Lynx Parallax and Callaway Big Bertha Warbirds myself

I don't want a driver the size of a football.

get the new Taylormade Tour burner TP with a 65g rombax shaft (or the whiteboard), seriously fantastic peice of equipment.

As for a putter you cant really go wrong with a Scotty, but as far as what is best, I would suggest whatever suits your eye. Dependent on what your budget is, I would go and get fitted for both putter and driver, otherwise you will always be wondering if there is another driver you can hit 20 yards further.
