2008 French Grand Prix - Race 8/17

Would Donny make a good F1 track? I can't remember which one it is, have to look it up.

I got treated like the antichrist the last time I asked this but why would anyone want to watch F1 cars putting in practice laps? A procession of cars droning round and round...Much like an F1 race but without the thrilling overtaking spectacle of pit stops.

I guess you have to really be into it, unfortunately I can't watch practise today as I'm work but for me it's the enjoyment of watching the cars at speed.
May sound rubbish but it's not the same as the race, drivers take different, sometimes riskier lines, the track's a bit grim, they're just getting to know the place. Mistakes, fast cars and some blinding laps all add to the spectacle. The engines still sound awesome also... :D

From your post, I take it F1 isn't your thing?

1. Massa
2. Lewis
3. Hekki
4. Kimi

Thats the top 4.. Massa was in a league of his own up there at the front by over half a second. Both McLarens looked a bit of a handful with both lewis and hekki taking trips off the track. Its looking like the McLarens are going to struggle to beat the ferrari's if this performace keeps up. Only other news is it looks like half of Fred's renault V8 decided to let go with like 2 minutes remaining..

But since it's Friday the engines & gearboxes aren't covered by the life restrictions so there's no penalty if they change it.

if it wasnt "monaco" as in the same track but somewhere else, we would have probably stopped racing there a long time ago.

F1 at Donnington would be interesting, not sure how the cars would cope with the track, have only ever seen it with much slower cars and driven it in games. I'd imagine there would be a few good overtaking spots though - cars permitting.

I'd miss Silverstone though. First few corners are brilliant to watch.

Donington is way too narrow for an F1 circuit IMO.

Far from it; there is plenty of width for much wider cars (and trucks) to race there competitively. The only points of contention which I can see come from runoff and pit/paddock facilities.

That said, I haven't visited since the old pits were torn down...

Ham's really punishing the kerbs from the looks of it... Bet the car's loving that.
Kov not looking too grim at the moment either.

Oh... Just as I say that, Ham busts it well wide into the gravel...
Edit: Close up, damaged the front wing in that off.

Far from it. I just feel that the last ten odd years of rule changes and identikit tracks have done incredible damage to F1s value as a spectator sport. Three or four 'memorable' overtaking moves per season just doesn't cut it. You have to admit that it is a sad state of affairs where the only real excitement during a race comes from mechanical failure and gross driver error, and where pit stops are the primary means of passing for position.

Whether the current state of play is a result of ever more intricate aero advances leading to difficulty in following other cars or post-Senna kneejerk reactions is a point of debate though...

Anyone got a good technical rundown of next years rule changes?

Why is it that whenever anyone posts something mildly critical of any aspect of F1 on here, they get asked that sort of thing? Is it that hard to get the concept that you can watch and like F1 yet still be aware that it has some (pretty major) faults? :)

Bit over the top? The post was pretty negative, it was a valid question.
I just don't understand how live practise can be misunderstood, it's not bad to have on as a background item, this last session has had some decent things happening.
Think of it like looking at pictures of cars, they're not moving, they all have 4 wheels, you can't hear them, people still look though...

I also feel you get a better idea of what the race will shape out to be like, far better than Blundell blethering on about what happened.

I'm not missing the concept that F1 has been near ruined the last few years but rather than constantly complain, I just get on with it and always assume "the next year will be better"...
