Ok they have come into work today and are giving out "free evaluations" to the people who have company cars.
Now my boss has bottled it and now I have to take this guy out in my car on my petrol that has absoloutly nothing to do with the company.

To start with I was thinking oh well its some time off on a friday afternoon but now im thinking more along the lines, if i want someone to complain about my driving I'll give my dad a lift home (65 never driven but still tels me what im doing wrong).

I did my driving test 16 years ago and like most peolpe have never read the highway code again since and think im a good driver.

I have a feeling im about to come crashing to the ground and be told all about my child killing ways by an ex-copper.
 
So, its not a company requirment, and you dont want to do it, but you are doing it?

I would explain that i was too busy with work, and didnt have the time to waste!
 
Not all IAM observers are ex coppers. Even if they were, most IAM guys are nice folks who have excellent skills.

I belive [TW]Fox is an IAM observer.
 
Its a company requirement for company car owners.
I dont have one but my bosses argument is "you could have one soon".
Seeing the angel here? My boss doesnt want to do it (cause hes been to the pub) and is trying to bribe me into doing it. (not as him but as me and i save him form having to do it today)
 
I may be missing something but you want to turn down a free evaluation because you're scared he'll point out you made a few mistakes ? Surely you already know you're not a perfect driver ? This is the kind of training that not only raises the standard of your driving but may one day save your life. IAM should be mandatory IMO along with a compulsory evaluation with a qualified instructor every 5 years in order to keep driving.
 
I'm an observer (and definitely not an ex-copper :) ) and I'd suggest you do it, you may just find you enjoy it and learn something. We don't complain about your driving, just give you some hints on how to improve your driving and let you enjoy it more.
 
It's actually bloody good and you'd do well to listen to them - they (well most) are not condescending old giffers who think driving is about doing 30 in a 30 and nothing more. Infact the IAM regularly stated it should be expected that you 'Make Progress' where appropriate - although as a national body they have to be seen to respect laws you get the impression that most have the same sort of opinion for speed limits as everyone else with safe, confident driving a higher priority.

Rilot - I was almost an observer, they invited me to do the training but I figured it was probably a bit much with Uni as well. I'm waiting until I've finished with education then I'll give it more serious consideration.
 
Generally speaking it's about anticipation and being aware of things and prepared to react to things long before the average motorist would, there is also plenty done on optimal road positioning (no, not racing line), etc etc.
 
Done it.
Wasnt scored to badly either. His main complaint was that I change gear too much but other than that I scored pretty highly.

As for doing the whole thing, If work will pay for it i might do it. I was amazed that even at my age (over 30) it makes a sizeable drop on your car insurance.
 
Ive got to do the samething House, anyone who does over 25k at our firm has to do it,I guess i will have to behave myself while driving.I can drive correctly, I just dont like to:p
