Fully synthetic oil

Simon, I am after some oil for my Nissan 200SX track car with high boiling points. I am confused as to whether I should chose an oil with a Pro Super Ester Base Oil Super Duper or not. What is your opinion.

why cant you disclose the information? youll be doing people a favour and "bigging up" your employer

Because technicaly he should not have seen any results that have not been offered due to Non Analysis Agreements. It's quite a big thing in the industry and can land you in hot water. :p

As for the oil, grade is really dependant on what your engine needs, and appropriate OEM approvals ensure that the oil wont eat the seals. Remeber, just becase a fluid claims to to be a 0W-X ester based fully synth does not mean its any good. Read the back and see what specifications it meets.

All a fully synth oil would net a normal road user is a longer drain interval really (you have to change it eventualy too!).

Crankcase oil is actualy quite a large complicated topic (and supprisingly interesting too!) and the public are generaly ill-informed as to what things mean and what matters. Think i might have a go at making a guide. :)

:)

We don't have any agreements with competitors regarding stuff we can buy off the shelves. We don't tear down many anyway, just benchmark against them.

Fox - You need mega Quad y0 ester tech

so simon, what do you recommend for my MR2? its a fully rebuilt and modified engine going on its first propper oil after being run in, i'd like to know what you reckon

cheers

Nothing, just wondering how people can make claims like that with zero evidence

Evidence is from Rod Tarry on Passionford who owns the saffy cos that does over 200 mph. He had big probs with oil crystalising in his turbo as its run pretty hard ;) He had independant analysis done and Silkolene Pro S came out best.

Certainly it seems to be doing the business in mine and plenty of others that run the turbo pretty hard and get the oil warm.

Silkolene costs no more than mobil 1 or millers race etc. I can't see a reason not to use it. But each to their own.

Silkolene by the sounds of things, cause oil crystalising in turbos is the biggest issue with road engines.

Good point, I've no idea whether it uses time to calculate it. It certainly uses driving style.

The computer has a pre set fuel usage limit, once you have used 'x' litres of fuel you need a service.

Drive like a loony and you use fuel quicker and hence decrease the time to next service faster.

As for silkolene, before opie oils sprung up and spammed every car forum known to man I can't say I know anyone who used silkolene. It was all mobil 1 and castrol.

I ran Silkolene pro s 5w-40, and shell helix ultra 5w-40 in my 200sx and since the service intervals were every 6k miles neither performed better than the other for my use. I do wonder why enthusiasts in general seem to get all excited about changing the engine oil every few thousand miles, surely if your getting that much fuel dilution then you have bigger problems to sort first.

Fuchs is the parent company which also produces silkolene, you used to be able to buy fuchs oil cheaply from eurocar parts.

Reading around the internet it seems like 5w-40 is the spec VW quote you should use for the 1.8T, i was under the impression it was 5w-30 fully synth, hmm.....

I've seen 5W30, 5W40 & 10W40 quoted before.

This is from oil manufacturers and dealers NOT Joe Bloggs on the internet so I don't think anyone knows what they should be using!

Castrol seem to have the right idea on their website: recommended 5W30 edge, Alternative 10W40 Magnatec. Covering all bases ;)

I prefered it when I didn't care what went in my car, I just dropped it off with black oil and it came back with golden coloured oil... end of :p

For my car they say use Edge as Magnatec may not be suitable, but for the one other car that shares the engine it says use Magnatec!

I am using Titan Pro Syn 5W 40 in my 200sx got it from GSF £27 for 4 litres. I did use silkolene first but this stuff is the same quality for less money.

buy some half decent oil for like 25 quid, do the oil change your self every 5k miles, will do a world a good for you engine and costs about hour of your time.
