I have my main desktop which is connected via ethernet to our belkin 'n' router. I also have a laptop with a wireless adaptor that came with the router (also 'n' rated)

Transferring a file from my desktop to the laptop PC is very slow. A 700mb file takes a few minutes.

Surely it should be going going a fair bit faster else whats the point of having the 'n' standard?

The desktop is running vista 64 and the latop running xp home
Any ideas on what the the prob could be?

Cheers

You will be held up by the speed of the laptops Hard drive especially if its running on batteries. any idea of what the network throughput is? i.e. the K/bs in and out whilst copying?

Even over wire between my laptop and desktop I never see more than 10mb/s as its all the laptops hard drive can do (thats laptop to desktop. The other way is much less, but then the lappy is 5 years old!)

Nope as it doesn't show. Anyway I can get this info?

If I plug the latop in via ethernet then transfers are a lot quicker and as you say hard drive limited.

Its just losing so much speed over wireless
