Hi there, I'm not really into games these days (even though forked out £200 for a digimate cheapy 24inch monitor...) But I still dream of getting rid of my ADD tendencies...

Anyways, I have an 8800GTX 768mb vanilla version currently and was wondering if I should get rid on flea bay and get myself 2 x 4850s and put them in crossfire (bearing in mind though that I got a Asus P5K premium, and don't think that has full 16x lanes for 2 cards, think its 4x\16x...or something).

I was having a go at crossfire a while ago, and some nice member was kind enough to remind me in another thread of my comments a couple months ago. Basically would appreciate some advice on crossfire and how it stands now...is the scalling better than it was? Am I still going to find a lot of games don't really benefit from it, leaving me with a slower setup than I currently have for some stuff etc)

Thanks for any help\advice :)

A single 4850 is faster than a gtx and the 4850 scales very well.

Although if you arent into gaming then i have no idea why you are looking at upgradeing

If I've seen some poor scores with 8x/8x boards when using 4850s in Crossfire, so I really wouldn't want to be using one of them with a 4x lane. You might want to wait till the 4870 or 4870X2 come out as they would appear to be better upgrade paths for you.

If not into games why bother?

fixed!

<edit>
and even if you were, an 8800GTX has MORE than enough grunt for any game on the market at 1920x1200, with the sole exception of Crysis, which the 4850 struggles in anyway!

Thanks for all the posts :)

Right, I think I should have worded it better. I am into games, having trouble actually "getting into them"...

To old, my brain doesn't feel as involved as it used it, pretty normal I understand...

But it looks like I'm best off waiting to see what happens with the 4870 and prices. My 8800GTX does cut it for most games at 1920x1200, but for some it doesn't at all, not with AA\AF on high at least.

Anyway I'll wait abit longer, thanks for the replies though :)
