With the 3rd card running in a x4 slot

Would 3 card work on my motherboard :D

For the HD 4870

$300 + VAT = $352.5 ~ £179

Thats the minimum price we can expect. Is it really worth it for 20-30% more performance? 50% more expensive.

well its diminishing returns as is the case with 90%+ of all PC stuff. 4850 will no doubt be the best bang for buck.

Im glad I was wrong about the £150 price tag of the 4850, while it is that much sorta with delivery included am glad was wrong since @ £125 its a bargain card get 2 of em and u got a soloution that outpaces the best of Nvidia cards and at a fraction of the cost.

Roll on the Dark horse that is 4870XT ;)

Yeah it's called my rig.

Q6600 @ 3.6
780i + 4gb + elite pro + 2 odd
8800gtx sli, oc'd
5 os drives and 1 storage drive
2 deltas + mcp655 + case fans and cathodes

Hello lay-z-boy, thanks very much for your reply. I am extremely impressed that the Corsair HX 520W can run the system you have specified. I always tend to over estimate the power consumption a little bit mainly for safety purposes.

Just a quick question if you don't mind: If someone was building a system very similar to yours, would you actually recommend the Corsair HX 520W power supply unit or would you suggest the Corsair HX 620W model, mianly because it will be someone else running it and not yourself? (I hope you see what I'm getting out)

Thanks. :)

I run a similar power requirement rig from a 500w Seasonic without issue, if I was recommending to others I would hit on the 650w Corsair for example, just means you have room to grow into and for the price difference its not a huge leap that it once used to be.

Damn, i was hoping to read the reviews on Monday. :(
Dunno if you've already seen them but there's quite a few 4870 benchies around if you google. Looking very good - 40%+ quicker than 9800 GTX @ 1920*1200 4xAA/8xAF in a variety of games, even some showing it comfortably quicker than 9800GX2.

Anybody know if the 4 series has HDMI 1.3a? Or was it just another pipedream (Dolby True HD/DTS Master HD) bistream.

Sorry if the answer is around but I started a new job and I haven't kept upto date.

4850 supports 8-channel LPCM output over HDMI, but not TrueHD/DTS-HD MA, the only solution to that is if you wait for the new Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 Sound Card which does support HDMI 1.3a
