NV to ATI who is gonna jump?

Ati drivers have always been sub standard imo having owned plenty and having certain games crashing or just not working at all.

must have been awhile since you've had an ATI card???? they've owned nvidia in the drivers area for awhile now.

even though i'm hardly playing many games - too much networking study.....i think a 4870 has my name on it if it's another 25%+ faster across the board than the 4850.

so glad ATI have put it to NV, they're so very back!!!!

i have been aNV "boy" for a long time now but if the 4870 turns out to be any were near good, ill be swaping, mainly cause i need sli(or crossfire if i go 4870) as i am running a 30" screen, my current 680i mb is a pile of poo and from what i am reading the 780/790 can be as bad, had intel done sli i would have swaped ages ago

so please daer lord let the 4870 be as good as people claim they are so i can get a new
motherboard and some 4870's

Always had nV cards, never had any trouble with them and was satisfied with their performance. But, ATI's offerings look too good to miss. 4870 CF or 4870x2 CF.

Will look around for good prices.

Nah never got on with ATI cards/drivers so GTX280 all the way for me. Just got £220 for my ultra ;) happy days!

Plus i'm not interested in CF/SLI so need fastest single GPU.

aye. my last 4 cards have been nv's so time for a change. gonna change mobo's as well, had my P35 for over a year now.

Ive swapped and changed between ATi and Nv for a number of years now always going for the best bang for buck card,so im no fanboy of either , if these 4850s are better than my current 8800GT for just over £100 then it would be rude not to upgrade to one :)

Will be keeping my 8800GT for a little while longer and wait until some more maturer drivers are created for the 4850/70. Plus I want to replace my 20" with a 24" first.

Will do some purchasing then. :)

First time down the ATI route for me also. I just cannot justify the cost of the GTX200's.

Problem with crossfire and motherboards is changing board now when Nehalem is six months away. If you have no intention to switch to Nehalem for a while then fine but if you do then buying a new board now only to replace it again in six to eight months time is a bit painful surely.

There's also the OS licensing issue as, if you're running OEM then each board switch is going to require another 50-60 quid for a new OS licence (for those who actually care about being legal of course ;) )

I've never owned an ATi card once. Trying hard to remember all my old cards, but I had things like the 5900 Ultra, 6800nu (Vanilla), 7800GTX and then the 8800GTS which I have now. :)

But I'm waiting on the 4870 and depending on how it does, I think I may actually be very very tempted to get one. :D Plus it'd be nice to try out an ATi card / drivers / software and see how they compare.

When are they expected, the 4870's? Is it the next few days?

Thanks.

yeah soon,

My last ATI card was 9800 pro! :p

The 4850 looks good to me as its good in the only game I play Cod4, I'm still going to wait for 4870, maybe even the X2 as I cant x fire with this board.

I am definately changing to ATi as the prices are just ridiculous for NV.

Waiting for those 4870's, poised and ready to sell the 8800GTX.
:)
