Is it me or are they just so dull and flippin' boring to watch, the Ring 2 was on last night and instead! i'd rather watch "The Princess Diarys 2" my oh my.

They seem samey, dull in colour (yes its a horror) but so what! and there just not that scary.

Well!

The remakes often lose a lot of what made the original good. Can't think of an example that's done it well. I guess The Departed was alright (largely due to Nicholson), but it was still nowhere near the Honk Kong originals.

I thought both The Ring and The Ring 2 were entertaining and The Ring was flipping unnerving in places, especially when she comes out of the TV.

i think it is almost to close to call about which one is better.

I loved Infernal Affairs but when i saw The Departed I thought it was absolutely amazing, just as good as the original!

Yeah, they were absurdly bad. They completely misunderstood what made the original so scary, or even what is scary in general. They said "I know whats scary, lets do over the top effects, we've got the money, lets make it as unbelievable as possible".

They turn the monster in the original into a cute little girl who sometimes transforms into an ugly old woman, yeah that is terrifying. The ending in the original looked so real, seamless and disturbing, how they could think adding static and cartoony effects onto it would make it better is bemusing.

I hate evil little girls in horror movies. :(

:p

I'm the same in recent memory only both the american versions of the Ring and The Grudge have genuinely scared me. I'm ok with The Ring now but still refuse to watch The Grudge again, shame really because I'd quite like to see the sequel.

Ringu (the original) is hugely over-rated, it's not scary and it doesn't hold attention, it's dull and lacks atmosphere. The remake is the same, yet I like the grading style used which makes me give it a half mark more than the original. Still, both are quite bad films which shoudn't be watched, you'll die in seven days through scatching your eyes out.

If you're watching the American remakes then there's your answer.

Disagree, the first ring film and the first grudge film remain the only two horror films which have seriously frightened me. Both were the remake versions.

I watched both with the volume on my TV up on full and in a pitch black room, the ring by myself.

I think the scaryness of a film has a lot to do with the environment in which you watch it, but in the end I guess it was the style of those films which got me.

Second one was crap, felt low budget too.

It was fairly poor.

Jesus christ i watched the grudge at the cinema and felt genuinely scared when watching which is very strange as film just generally don't tend to scare me .... (except the 8 year old trickyj who watched Aliens at midnight...)

People can and will slate anything that is remade but the grudge really had atmosphere for me!
