Anyone have any views on these? I'm looking into getting rid of my 10 year old mark 1 Punto and replacing it with one of these

I've seen these go for about £7500 on Autotrader for a 57 reg with 2000 miles'ish.

Looking at the T-Jet which is a 1.4 Turbo'd engine (think its about 120bhp), its got fairly good economy, not got a huge engine (not huge emissions) so road tax will be reasonable, and it is only insurance group 7.
Plus they are releasing the mark 2 Grande Punto which introduces some new colours, much better standard alloys, some interior changes, and all the bluetooth gump as standard.

I'm really after a car of similar size, not with a huge engine, something with similar power, and something quite economical. Is there anything else available for a similar price that won't be horrible to insure for a 21 year old with 2 years no claims?

Be prepared for a lot of wailing about how unreliable Fiats are, depite them being no worse than most other marques ;)

One of the guys at work has a GP T-Jet (it replaced the most unreliable Seat Leon in history, what a piece of junk that car was....) and he really rates it. Certainly has enough poke to stay out of its own way, and it's not been expensive to run.

I have a soft spot for these. But at the end of the day, it's a Fiat.

Given your age and occupation, it will be a really good choice among your friends at Uni.

Turbo charged Punto. Students love Puntos.

which ? car guide 2008 i got from sainsburys yesterday says otherwise. Which? readers who owned a new shape Fiat Grande Punto voted it last in class for reliability ...

Pick the magazine up at sainsburys to read for yourself.

Its either a Grande Punto T-Jet or a Fiesta Zetec S. I quite like the Punto as its got quite a punchy engine for a 1.4, and the economy is good. I've always been keen on the Italian styling, just not keen on the 12k list price for them. Like I said i've seen some on trader for about 7.5k which I think is pretty reasonable for a 57 reg T-Jet with <5k miles on it. There were some as low as 6k so the depreciation is terrible on these and i'd be more inclined to pick one of the Mk2's out towards the end of this year, beginning of next year when there are some 6 month old examples knocking about.

If it wasnt the Punto, like I said i'd probably be looking at a Zetec S or an ST, but the ST would most likely kill me on insurance. Anyone any experience with a Zetec S?
