I live in west kensington (hammersmith and fulham borough) and i need my car down there for the week to run a few errinds and i have just realised, we have residents parking in my street but i am driving down today. I dont have a permit what do i do?

I only need the car there for a a few days this week and maybe next week if there is a cheap alternative?

Whats the best thing to do? As ive never used a car in london before?

Try and get yourself a permit first thing tomorrow morning?
Otherwise you risk it, or put it in a car park, which will cost a small fortune.

Why don't you have a permit if it is resident parking?

Becuase it costs x amount a year and i dont use my car i leave it at my parents.

Whats the risk how likely is that inspectors come around in little quiet side streets and stuff?

I live in LBHF also and they have ticket machines on my street for if you don't have a permit 30p an hour or something.

I got ticketed on my own street once when I was living in a city up North and I hadn't yet got a permit. So I think they tend to check once a day.

With the amount of traffic wardens in London, I'd imagine it will get checked every 5 minutes.

I am so frustrated with this all! I cant beleive i cant just get a temporary form for like a weeks cover at a small cost i mean i live there!!! It will cost me £15 pay and display per day!! When i actually live in the house!

I'm surprised you can't to be honest, I've arranged temporary permits for friends and family visiting before but it took a few days to get sorted...

Yer thats what i want i think i can do it but i need it now, im annoyed at myself for not thinking about this in advance im normally so organised! Just never crossed my mind that i would need to pay for my own parking there!!!

Doubt it, not anywhere you'd want to leave your car anyway. The cheapest option for a few days parking might actually be somewhere near heathrow...

Tesco has a 3 hour limit on their car parks that is enforced using CCTV. So whilst you won't get anything on your car or a wheel clamp, you will get a fine through the post.

Our local one is £75 a day according to the sign.

Ahhh damn!! I didnt realise what a hassle it was to be a motorist in london! Thank god i never have to do it!!

Something has got to happen!

we had free street parking in london (battersea) in our flat. (just moved out) if its of any interest i can give you the post code. Bear in mind as its all free it gets quite busy!
