2008 French Grand Prix - Race 8/17

With regards to re-fuelling: it was brought in to make racing more exciting. Without re-fuelling and different re-fuelling strategies, the guy who was on pole would have a good chance of winning the race as he was the fastest driver.

Yes, because we can't have the *fastest* driver winning a motor *race*, can we?

And hell - what was actually wrong with the old system with regards to racing? We got wonderful stuff like this going on.

I will stick my neck out and say a Ferrari wont do a 1-2. I think something will happen to one of them. Hamilton should make this race exciting. As he is far back on the grid, he has nothing to lose by going really really fast. Lets hope Kubica can try and attack the Ferraris.

I hope Kubica at least makes a fight of it....but I still want Massa to win when it all shakes out.

News flash - New drinking whilst watching ITV-F1:

Every time they mention 'Lewis', take a drink. Full name, take a shot. I reckon people playing will be paralytic in 5mins :D.

Looking forward to a good race, hope that Heidfeld can move through the field, really want the Red Bulls to do well, would be good for both drivers as they are top blokes.

Everytime a anyone says "for sure" take a drink.
Everytime Piquet leaves the track, take a shot.

With regards to having to make the races shorter, rubbsih as they are the same distance now as they were in the early 90s, yes they had bigger fuel tanks, but i think banning fuel stops would be a good idea, and would force the teams/engine manufacturers make more efficient cars.
Next year they are making the rear wings a lot smaller and so the cars need to produce more mechanical grip due to the lack of aerodynamic grip.
You would have to make a number of other changes before even thinking about that... the cars (design and engine) are designed with refueling in mind - you can't just ban it. I think it adds to the spectical so removing it any time soon would be crazy; the chance of a fire is one of the highlights at races like France ;)

Nope we cant. Otherwise, we would have all drivers run low fuel loads in qualifying. Get pole (or aim for it) and the race would effectively be decided in qualifying. The pole sitter will generally be the fastest car/driver. Then the spectators could go home as we would know who would win.

By adding variables like tyre changes, refuelling, differing fuel levels in qualifying, different tyres in qualifying, etc, the audience doesnt actually know who is the fastest car/driver until the race unfolds. Hence, it is never a forgone conclusion that the pole sitter is the fastest and (relability permitting) will win the race.
