First "real" HD4870 benchies @ HKEPC

I couldn't find this in any other thread, and with the RV770 thread being about a gazillion pages long I figured with it being a lovely lazy Sunday that these would get some good discussion going.

First real 4870 benches by a forumite @ HKEPC:

Doesn't look bad... not that even with translation it makes much sense! :D

Lol fantastic, some of the translations are hilarious :D

Is it me or is that 06 score lower than the 4850 card

A perfect example as to why benchmarks without a comparison to anything known are almost useless. Some people managed to twist the early 4850 results into looking slower than the 8800 GT and such because they were running incomparable systems.

If they were going to fake it (some AMD bias site) surely they would make it beat the GTX280, and by my viewing of that chart its does not.

Anyhow time will tell when we see real reviews.

It doesnt beat the GTX 280, what it does do though is get very very close to beating for half the price, in crossfire its destroys a single 280 and even competes with SLI 280's at you guessed it. half the price. For the cost of SLI GTX 280's you should be able to get 2x4870X2 for far better performance.

Peeps have been trying to say it will "KILL" the GTX280 (forgetting the price) and I would have thought Crossfire would have beaten SLI TBH.

Doesnt have to beat GTX280 to be value for money, just competing alone for half the price is an absolute bargain. We know that crossfire 4850's beat the living snot out of the GTX280 in CoD4 so things are looking rosey for ATI.

I could not care less about cost or the fact 2 cards can beat 1 card (wow big deal).

I read all week that this 4870 will be faster/beat a GTX280 ( a card I don't even rate/want).

And again SLI is older and does not scale as well as Crossfire so results above surprise me.

And don't even go by Crysis, that's a joke in itself. ;) (AFAIK it still has no Proper/Full/Offical SLI support after last patch and there an no more patches as you read weeks ago).

No-one with any shred of common sense from an AMDS fan-site would have a 4870 beating a GTX280 in benchmarks because that would be completely unrealistic and no-one with give it any shred of credence, whereas if they had it coming a respectable distance behing that would allow people to take it seriously... come on man use your grey matter...

Who on earth would say a 4870 would "kill" a GTX280... what nonsense. You'd have to be mad, even for a fanboy.

What are you smoking ?.

All over the forum/web peeps are claiming the new 4870 will be faster than the GTX280 (been doing so for weeks), look at the ATI cards specs esp Memory speed.

And fanboy of what ? ATI cause I dont use/like ATI so you cant be calling me a ATI fanboy (hard to tell what you ever mean TBH).

Say something for once that makes sense or go and read what everyone is saying them come back.

Is it so hard to believe that I or others are surprised (if the results are not fake) that the new 4870 does not beat the GTX280 in performance 1card v 1 card ?.

A small minority... unless you want to provide links to this apparent widespread mob claiming that it will "kill" the GTX280. :p

I wasn't calling you a fanboy... sheesh... your reading is as bad as your writing. :D

Righttttt... ;)

Do you read any other websites other than OCUK and visit any other forums other than these ?, if so you must have read all the ATI talk. ;)

I actually believed ATI were going to make a faster card, esp after the lacklustre GTX280.

Pot calling the kettle black, where is your English School, of Ectica Certificate ?

I don't think it'll beat the 280, but I think it'll be at least competition for the GTX260. It's the 4870 X2 that'll have the GTX280.

Yes I read/moderate other forums... can't say i've notiuced this widespread "4870 will kill the GTX280" mentality... guess the forums I frequent don't have as many idiots, as no-one with common sense would say that.

The GTX280 may have been "lacklustre" in your eyes (and many others admittedly), but it's still incredibly quick, and also stands in a much higher value market segment... so to think the 4870 priced much lower would beat it, especially after seeing the many 4850 results, is a tad unwise/optimistic/foolish (delete as appropriate).

Bingo, it's the GTX260 it'll be worrying... and the X2 will take on the GTX280... I thought most people were aware of that.
