It's not about being on anybody's side, it's that the GTX280 is genuinely a very powerful single GPU, it doesn't warrant its price, granted, but fast it is. The 4870 X2 which should be coming out in 6-8 weeks is the competition for the GTX280 (imo it should be a good bit faster than it in games like CoD4 that support Crossfire scaling well).

Loadsa loves ATI 1 day and Nvidia the next, anyone can read his posts.

Why is any of these needed in CoD4, it ran 60/70/80/100FPS (varies) maxed for me at 1920's, its based on CoD2 engine but revamped and does very well.

I know for a fact I have read for weeks that the 4870 will beat the GTX280 performance wise not cost and not 2 cards v 1 card.

I actually Googled it and got 1 result top of page 1st time, I guess others could do the same while I walk the dog.

I'm happy Nvidia are still top but going by what I read they were going to be beaten.

ATI pulled out of the high end game ages ago, they never intended the 4870 to go head to head with the GTX280, infact they aimed it at the 9800GTX market, the fact it beats the 9800 and competes with the GTX260/280 in some situations is a bonus.

At the end of the day ATI have released a mainstream product that competes with a competitors high end product. Dissing ATI because there "NEW" card doesnt destroy Nvidia's is just pathetic. They are competing on different ends of the spectrum. I for one certainly don't expect it to destroy the GTX280 SLI or not, its a far more expensive product, infact if anything people should be thinking hang on a minute if xxx can do this well for xxx quid, why is yyy so damn expensive.

Who is DISSING IT (if you mean me your dreaming), not said anything bad about it above.

I have just stated I expected the ATI card to beat the GTX280 by all reading in past weeks.

I will not be buying any of these cards this time around, I do not rate the GTX280 (sure its fast) nor do many and I can skip it for now.

I've read that the 4870 will beat the 280 on questionable sites I may add. I simply put this down to complete heresay since the 4870 doesn't have anywhere near the technical complex to do so.

All I ever said was that I read for weeks that ATI were going to take back the performance crown, not SLI not Crossfire.

If they did, good on them but the results above if even real suprised me.

Anyone not get that ?.

Richdog stop being a child and stirring it, you can surely read as well as others and not just the Inq (multiple Sites/Forums/links on Sites to other sites).

You mean forced out. The fact they "pulled out" was because they had no response to the 8800GTX, only recently have they overtaken the 18month old card.

Well, the 4870 might beat the GTX280... In Assasins Creed sans DX10.1 removal patch.

Edit: Also, once again, AMD never stated they were pulling out of the high-end entirely, they're just using multi-GPU tech to do it rather than one very large die. Fair game if it works I say.

People should learn not to believe everything they read, especially when form questionable sources.

I personally don't think the 4870 will come anywhere near beating the GTX 280, and don't see how anyone can think so after seeing all the 4850 reviews. If it does come close to the 260/280, then I will be very happy for AMD/ATI.

Don't know why all you people argue over speculation as you do. Why not have a normal discussion about possibilities, rather than the rampant fanboy flaming?

End of the day, its not going to matter which company has the better card. There will be setups and options for everyones price bracket, whether it be single cards, sli, or crossfire.

Who cares, as long as the 4870 beats the GTX 260 then im sure everyone will be happy and splashing out on it.

We don't really need too much of an amazing graphic card update as only crysis is the problem right now. far cry 2 and Alan wake pose the only problem in the near future.

And the 4850 is already near to GTX 260 performance, meaning that ATi should get the 4870 past the GTX 260 to be honest otherwise everyone will just get the cheaper 4850.

Exactly.

It's not hard to put two and two together and think that NVIDIA might Just have th advantage in the high end with their hardware and that there is no obvious way the 4870 would end up beating it (280).

Fortunately for ATi they have another product coming shortly to go against the 280.

Now that WILL beat it. Sucks to be NVIDIA the 280 won't be lasting long

No.

One PCB two GPU's. Something like the 9800GX2 would be two cards but yes it will use crossfire. I've also heard they've done away with the bridging chip so should act a lot more like a single GPU..

I'm out this thread, I only EVER STATED I thought the 4780 was faster then the GTX280 going by all I read inc in here.

I do not normally enter ATI threads but the Benches (if real) topic attracted me.

It does not seem to sink in for some of you that I was going by what I read and was not bothered either way as I'm keeping my card as it does what I want/need.

I'm going to have to go ahead and say this as it's annoying me I see it a lot from you or maybe it's just me.

Helmutchesse one thing that completely ****s me off about you is you always argue the toss but then rarely provide actual links or sources to back up your argument.

You always say "Learn how to search" or as you just put it "GOOGLE" and then subsequently flame the person because they haven't. It always ends up the same

Why don't you just provide the links like the man asked instead of creating an unnecessary argument?

Because I think he rarely has the info to back it up, which is why he got so defensive and attacked me just because I quesitoned him. Seems a bit more blag than substance to me.
