I recently made my brother some, had been meaning to learn Fireworks CS3 for a while, so this plus a bunch of other business stationery he needed was good enough reason as any:

Thats what I came up with in the end, i'm not a graphic designer or anything so they aren't anything amazing... but I think they look professional and match everything else I made for him in colour and design so for free he could have done a lot worse. In the process of making a matching website to replace the current one.

He used vistaprint to order them, I think they offer 250 business cards free or something, you only pay postage and any extras like colour back sides etc.

i want quite thickish cards, dont want flimsy :p so which gsm do you recommend?

GSM (grams per sq metre) is weight not thickness (microns) so it's a bit hard to really recommend an optimum weight but as a rule of thumb the heavier, the sturdier and the 200gsm Decadry ones are about as light as you want to go, they're designed for your run of the mill home printers which probably can't handle much heavier:)
I would say not less than 300gsm...
If you buy bespoke ones then you should demand at least that:)

I have some for work, the ones I have at the mo cost far too much (£49.50 for 100) so will be finding a new printer from now on.

I've heard so many bad comments about Vistaprint, and they also advertise on the back of the cards, so not a good sign when dealing with a company.

I've ordered cards from Goodprint before and they were very good quality and prices are very good with a discount code.

Vistaprint are great, they alternate betwene doing free t-shirts, buisiness cards ect. If you sign up to their newslater you get crazy load of offers. But yeah, design your own t-shirt and basically get it free!

That's not expensive particularly for 100, it gets vastly cheaper as you order more. Buying that few is always going ot leave it relatively expensive. The biggest cost in Litho printing is setting up the run - once it's running, leaving it going for longer doesn't cost a lot.

It's different with digital presses, but Litho printing is better quality.

ive just come acrossed this site print100.com not sure if anyones used them before? im thinking having the back of my card UV spotted :D

Getting some made up for me at the moment, hopefully get them next week. Not sure who we use at work yet for them.
