Vectra VXR

One final time...VXR's dont handle as bad as Topgear or some of the clueless members on here make out.

People also go on and on about Vauxhalls poor build quality yet you see far more posts from the supposedly better marques with huge repair bills.

But the ones that have driven it mostly agree they dont handle compared to the equivalent mondeo/3 series etc.

And the second point is because hardly anyone on here owns a vauxhall :D

Not many i'd assume, which is why the slating of the whole VXR range on here is frustrating. The Vectra is a good car for the money if its what your after. People moaning about indicators are just being petty and obviously have no control over their hand movements , it really is as simple as just tapping the stalk.

I'm the one criticising the indicators, yet also sticking up for the VXR and Vauxhalls generally; the two are not mutually exclusive ;)

Build quality and reliability are different. I despise cheap plastic crap yet do not mind paying to repair my car when stuff goes wrong.

When you have to pay for rent or a mortgage your views on car expenditure will mean a bit more though.

The Vxr most definatly looks better than the ST220. Personally if i ever wanted a larger car, i would buy either of them quite happily, if it was down to personal choice i would choose the VXR although i can see the wisdom in saving 7k and buying the ST220.

I do prefer newer cars though and wouldnt dream of buying something that was over 5 years old with monster mileage, its just not worth the hassle of potential repairs creeping up sooner than you want.

You have your heart set on a vectra. Buy it. But dont come crying on here when you understeer into a ditch.

280Bhp through the front wheels of a heavy nosed 2.8 V6 on a pants chasis... Awesome.
BMW 530i's go in ditches too you know!

Get the VXR!!

But if I was thinking about the cash and the missus hitting me when I told her how much I spent on it, I would go with the Mondeo.

The VXR looks like a beast though.

having driven the VXR's at brands hatch i was left alittle disapointed.

yes nice power but they wasnt as nice around the corners... Corsa, Astra was ok, Vectra was terrible, and VXR8 was scary (i couldnt drive it lol).

Insides of Vauxhalls are HORRIBLE also.

if i HAD to buy a VXR it would be the Astra.

Lets not go too far into an irrelevent comment about a car not mentioned in this thread posted purely to troll, or we'll be here all night :p
Troll? I thought it added a better dimension to the point of the Vectra being labelled dangerous due to its ditch finding capabilities. You seem a little sensitive about BMW 530i's and dit... oh wait! Sorry.:D

The Vectra isn't a dangerous handling car and, is, as far as I could tell, as fast point to point as Hassan's Focus RS. Race tracks, magazines and OMGz aside, on a real road with real people, the Vec is extremely capable and surefooted. It's not crap, just not as sharp as the superb ST220. I would also expect power delivery to play its part between the two when it comes to A to B driving as well.

Except that has nothing to do with the point in hand whatsoever.

Hmm

Vec has massive understeer, is dangerous, and goes in ditches. Other cars don't? I mentioned a BMW 530i as it's known to have a fine chassis and handle very well, but even they end up in ditches, so the whole, OMG Vauxhall and ditch thing doesn't really mean much and IS relevant to the point.
