NV to ATI who is gonna jump?

Well I've gone from an 8800GT OC to an Asus 4850. Got sick of cack official drivers and having to hunt around for driver bug-fixes etc.

Very very impressed with the 4850 - gaming at 1920x1200 is a decent step fwd with this card. I plan on getting a 4870 too and trying it out individually and xfire'd with the 4850. Then I'll make a decision on keeping both, or flogging one of them.

sweet, really looking forward to the 4870. sold my 8800 gtx last sunday for £170 and been without my pc for a week!

well with my 7800GT on the fritz (atrifacting, and BSODs due to ram on gfx card) i hastily bought a £30 HD 2900pro.

then on friday it still hadnet turned up, and i was going to wait for the HIS ICEQ 4850 to comeout, but i needed a card, so i ordered a £125 saphhire HD 4850.

my first ATI card EVER. (well i bought an x1800GTO but it was DOA (or so i thought, it was just my generic 500W PSU wasnt up for 3d mode LOL))

Q2D all the way, especially with prices atm.

Do you possibly mean C2Q? If so, then definitely C2Q all the way. I'm going to be throwing my current Q6600 in a server computer and buying a Q6700 now they're so cheap! :D No reason to get anything else at the prices they're going for.

Nah, an 8800GTX is overkill for me, running Crysis at very high with great framerate, my screen is only 1440x900 though. If I upgraded to a 30 then it would be 4870X2 or 4870 XFire. Would never buy a 4850 (even it's as cheap as chips) because I will kick myself for going for second best :D

I only get 30-35FPS in Crysis at 1280x960 all Very High no AA

What card you got ?.

Sold 8800GTX, waiting on the results for the 4870. I got a good price for the GTX so it will almost be a free upgrade for me if the 4870 is in the £200 ball park. I need to upgrade to something as I only have my mac book pro atm. Gaming on consoles make me feel so dirty 8-)

The thing is, the fact that everyone is slating the GTX 280 is purely on price. Say nVidia price cut it to £300 or even £250 and everyone would be right back on that bandwagon.

I've never understood why people write cards off as 'bad' when it's always so completely dependant on the price their sold at. Hell, even a 2900XT is a good card for £20.

Based on currently pricing, the 4850 is a difficult card to ignore, even by the biggest nVidia fanboy who's go something less than an 8-series. ATI need to fill the different price points with equally good cards (HD 44x0, 46x0, 4870X2) for the price and only then will they really start to see a positive gain from it.

240 can get you Xfire 3850's beating the GTX280 in some games.

Thats the point!

Well there's not much of a better way to make comparisons, especially when its the GTX280 that's involved. A lot of people think it's totally pointless because you can get better performance for less price (half price in fact). So of course a card's price will determine if it's 'good' or 'bad' if you can get the same performance with a solution that's half price. Price determines almost everything. When it comes to value, that is largely based on opinion + cost of product.

also a point is if it even works.like a lot of people who have crossfire woes.i know a few people who are still trying to get there machine running right from 6 months ago when they brought there cards.if it works you ok but if they act up headache for months.

Indeed,

The GTX280 is just not worth the premium.
