Well whats in the title everyone is so happy with 4850 and some people holding of to 4870 but will anyone wait for 4870x2? or it will be just me

my plan is to get a 4870 to replace my old X1950 pro, then around xmas time when i get my full upgrade get another 4870 and crossfire, or sell it and get an X2.

Nope me as well. I have a p35 baord so xfire no good to me.

Plus I have a very overclocked GTS G92 which is well past 9800GTX performance so a 4850 would not be a step up and the 4870 a small step up so waiting for the 4870x2 to give me a big boost.

I'm curious to see some results from a HD4870, hopefully by that time the lesser HD4850 should have dropped in price a little.

I'm sure the HD4870x2 will be quite a beast but the cost will most likey be prohibitive as will the power draw!

The next big game I've got my eye on is Stalker:CS and I've got my mind set on getting a new GFX card in to play that, and that hopefully is out at the end of Aug. It'll also mean I've had my 2900XT for a year, iirc I got that in to play Bioshock.

So basically at the moment I'm hoping that the X2 will drop early/mid August and that'll be enough time for the reviews to be out and the early adopters prices to have dropped a bit. I'll then decide whether a 4870 is going to be enough for me, or if the X2 is cheap/good enough for me to splash out on.

I mainly game a 1280x1024, FPS's etc, but I've recently bought a 40" 1080p LCD and game on that occasionally now with a pad. And the 29000XT doesn't quite cut it.

But if the 4870 lands at about £200 at launch I know it's going to be hard for me to resist. :D

I won't be doing anything until sep/oct - there just aren't enough games out there that need the power. Might use the time/money to invest in a new case and and hard disk :)

Yep put me down as waiting for the X2 as well :D and can some people read Amd\Ati's price plan the 4870X2 is going to be the $499 card that will not equate to £400 in the UK. This card will likely come in at the same price point as the 3870X2 as that is the price plan some people never learn same bunch were talking about £200 4850's and we all know how that panned out.

Ill probably wait for it as well, as has been said, theres not enough games out that need the power, i can run everything >60fps that i play at 1920x1200 mostly with AA too on my 8800gts.

I do want something new and fun to play with though :)

4870X2 looks like it will be pricey. Put it this way NVIDIA won't really have much to counter it so ATi can charge what they want. I'm expecting £350+

I've just got a GX2 at a bargain price which I'll be keeping till XMAS.
