Hi all,

I'm looking to buy one of my best mates a 21st birthday present. He's a massive petrolhead, F1 fan and Ferrari aficionado.

I'm torn between what to get him. I've got about £200 to spend (could maybe push it up a little more if it's worth it) and so far I'm looking between these two:

Ferrari Experience

Single Seater

Am I right in thinking that with the Ferrari experience he'll get some single-seat time as well?

He's not into rally driving at all so that's not an option. I basically want to get him the best mix of track time and experience possible for the cash, so if there's anything else you'd recommend please feel free to say!

Thanks a lot for any advice!

That Silverstone one looks brilliant... Anyone else have anything better or ones they've done?

I found the single seater stuff i have done on the track much more entertaining!

There is just something about seeing the wheels, suspension, and tyres doing their thing. Bum on the floor, feeling the car move about on the road :D

Cant beat it!

I've tracked a Diablo and a single seater, both at Thruxton. The Lambo was great but the single seater was awesome.

My mum got me one of those driving experience thingies last Xmas! (Choice between Ferrari or Porsche). Going for the Ferrari naturally :D

Cant wait, need to book tho!

I get the idea that anything with dual controls will just not be fun at all. Single seater will be much more entertaining :)

I'm looking at finding a trackday for Elise 111R driving as that's what I would ideally want as a next car. These things have to be a great taster as long as the supervisor bloke doesn't make you drive like a granny!

I tracked the 111r at Rockingham, on the handling circuit, was MUCH more fun (albeit slower) than the WRX's i drove on the same circuit :)

Very nice car on the track the 111r, just felt so planted and smooth :D

single seater > ferrari

I did a experience day at thruxton on saturday just gone, the single seater was the best part of it. Try and find somewhere where they don't restrict them so much though.

Is he really your lover or something?;) Very kind of you to buy such a lavish present for your mate. I'd say go with the single seater option then you don't have so much of a risk of a numpty instructor ruining the experience. Before some people slate me yes I know instruction can be good and I enjoy and learn much from good instruction but I've also had an experience ruined by a total **** of an instructor.

Absolutely......my instructor for driving the ferrari was rubbish.

I did a single seater day at Mallory park over a Ferrari exp. purely because the Ferrari one was a 3 hour thing with a couple of laps in the car and that was it compared to a full day driving about 5 different cars, (including 2 types of single seater!) :) That was with Everyman racing.

He's taking a bunch of his mates on holiday as his birthday present and we're staying in a 5-star hotel with flights all paid for etc. thought this might go some way to saying thanks!

Thanks a lot for all the replies guys, looks like single seater at Silvestone it is!

There's a massive choice here - http://www.activitysuperstore.com/step2_activity_drive.aspx

I got bought one from a stationary store (could be a competitor so won't post name) but went through that website above.

It was in Oxfordshire and the company that did it was Vision Motorsport, I think you can purchase directly from their website - www.rally-driving-days.co.uk where they do all sorts.

Email is in trust if you'd like any more info :)

EDIT - just to add, I did this one and it was fantastic - http://www.rally-driving-days.co.uk/acatalog/1000bhp_driving_experience.html

When I left a previous job, they bought me a Ferrari experience similar to that mentioned by the OP.

It was at Silverstone and an absolute laugh.

6 laps in an Exige (5 laps at the wheel) then 6 laps in a 360 (again, 5 at the wheel). Finished off with some young whippersnapper from the Clio Cup driving you round for 2 laps of fast fun in a race prepped Exige.

I would do it again, without a doubt, but the single seater also appeals massively
