Tonights boxing - Khan vs Gomez

Pacman would beat him easily! He'd finally be facing someone with speed which would be fun to watch.

If Khan is serious about wanting to step it up then he could do worse than go for Julio Diaz who has been to the top before.

Good fight last night, Khan is slowly improving. I'm pretty sure Gomez was one of his toughest opponents yet, and he gave Amir a good run. Some nice body shots thrown it, but I think Amir still needs to work on his accuracy and defence. Just seem's once he get's going, he's launching and missing.

Hope he keeps it up and has a world title shot soon

So when they going to put Khan up against a proper boxer?

Seems to me they're just choosing easy competition to keep his winning streak going and to milk the crowds.

He didn't suffer enough damage, he was happy to carry on.

If he had he would have been knocked out and unable to carry on.
lol are you serious? I'm sure the boxer would happily carry on but he isn't qualified to say whether or not it is safe. He was getting a pasting and in the long term serious damage would have come from it.

I think this fight has shown Khan doesnt have a great chin... Gomez's was way way better (not for his own good).

Gomez looked punched out very early on in the fight, yet still really troubled Khan. This coming from a fighter who's over the hill and nothing special anyway.

The fight was stopped too early, he still had his guard up and threw a shot back at Khan.

I do think it was a touch early, Gomez was still hurting Khan and wasnt just throwing haymakers.

Supposedly Gomez has a big right, but for the lack of defense from Khan I'm not sure he threw a single big right which seems a bit pointless.

Gomez, pretending to be a good fighter. THe idea is to stay ready to move, and avoid a punch when it comes in. Gomez just constantly weaved, but in an incredibly predictable pattern. Duck left, two steps, duck right, two steps, duck left, two steps. That Khan didn't finish him in the first was frankly embarassing. its simple ,he ducked/weaved right, in 3 seconds he was going to to the same to his left, you know exactly where his head will be in a few seconds, you throw a right hook as he moves into it, knockout(or a few punches like that).

Joke fight, another in the long line. can't see Khan ever getting good without a hard fight to push himself. AT the end of the day because he's fighting such awful opposition he hasn't the need to really keep up defenses. he might have a decent defense, but when you essentially know the guy you're fighting, on his best punch ever, won't end you, defending is rather pointless. However if you fight, without defending you get used to fighting like that, and the more you fight bums, the more you fight like a bum. When he comes up against real opposition he won't have taken many hard hits, he won't have been in hard fights, he'll be used to being to relaxed defensively and take to many punches assuming he won't get countered, as the slow idiots he fights have no chance to do so, and will walk into counter punches that end his career.

This is what happened to Audley and so many others, you fight crap opponents you actually become a worse boxer. Thats why you have to REALLY step up quality of opponent EVERY fight, other wise you really have no chance. Audley in his first fights looked better than every later fight, because he defended less, threw less combo's and tried less hard, but thats because, he knew it would still work. Frank Warren should be shot for helping to ruin boxing. SO many awful fights arranged by the "top" promoters with such a gulf in class between the fighters that its boring. Two great fighters, two poor fighters, can all be good fights. Two fighters completely unmatched in nowhere near the same class is almost never a good fight. :(

Until they match Khan agaisnt a sub 30 thirty quality fighter with at least something approaching the same reach he is never going to get any real respect.

Boxing isnt a case of just pummeling someone, to me khan really is just a fast track bully, they put him up against blown out midgets who must be lacking a good couple of inches reach and expect us to take him seriously.

Don't know much about boxing but all i know was that it was a wicked fight, very entertaining, Gomez was great, not in a boxing sense but just pure heart and soul, but Amir Khan was also good and deserved to win.

Problem being that Khan is a big lightweight. He will grow in to the Light Welterweight division before long, then we will see similar sized guys.

That's right he was very good... compared to the opposition. Just bear in mind that Gomez is nothing on the world stage, AND hes way past his peak, AND he's actually a super featherweight.

Khan's victory doesn't seem all that great now does it? He got put down once and Gomez was walking right through some pretty heavy blows for a good few rounds. All credit to Gomez he had a chance to make a name for himself and went for it, but it was a mismatch yet again.

I agree with drunkenmaster, I can see all this backfiring on Khan the day he steps into the ring with a world class fighter. As his fights have gone on his defense has actually got worse because he hasn't really needed it. And he's been floored by fighters not regarded as hard hitters. What chance has he got against a true lightweight/light welterweight? Not a hope in hell if it carries on like this.
