Ford Cougar, yes or no ?

Noo, the ST24 is a very different car. The engine is more highly strung and the chassis is well sorted. The Cougar is more like the Ghia X 2.5 V6 in terms of drive.

One thing to watch on the Cougar is it has very odd tyre sizes (215/50 VR16) which severely limits your choice of rubber. Only premium tyres are available so factor on £100+ per corner. According to the owners club a lot of folk fit 55 profile tyres and live with the speedo underreading.

The ST24 and Cougar V6 engine's are exactly the same the only v6 which isn't was the ST200. The Cougar also has the same suspension setup as the ST200 not sure on the shocks and springs but the subframe and wishbones are the same as the ST200. Which are a lot better then the ST24 which uses the same as the rest of the mondeos the ST24 had 15mm lower and stiffer springs and shocks that was the only difference the ST24 had over the rest of the mondeo range.

I stand corrected. I think I got confused with the ST200.
That's good info there. The rear end is definately the same as the MK2 Ghia. Did the rear brakes on my mates Mondy and the ex's Cougar at the same time and they were identical.

I wish they were! Unfortunately they are not, so if you need to replace your wishbone, you have to do it in pairs and will easily end up costing £500 at Fraud, because the Cougar wishbone setup is unique.

the rear end of an ST200/24 is also the same :) only the front end of the st200 and cougar thats different all other mk2 mondeos use the same front end setup

Fail. Overpriced waste of money and the looks that people liked and paid a premium for in the past are now starting to date.

no it's not they are the same as the ST200 any one told you different they are wrong as the ST200 also use's the 4 bolt wishbones :)

it also cost about the same to get ST200 wishbones from Ford

the american version of the mondeo the contour aslo uses the 4 bolt wishbones on nearly all models

not a fan of either car but hate seems a strong word.

Both cars are usually high spec (most seem to have leather etc) and i can think of much much worse cars to be in.

Have any of you sat in the astra coupe? Certianly doesn't look cheap inside, well I don't find mines does. No rattles from it at all, at reasonibly high speeds. Looks much better than the cougar.

I would also assume the turbo version is a fair bit quicker than the cougar.

:EDIT:
Already been said :)

Tyers , you can get Kumos for £70 a corner, and no they (we) dont fit 55's , we just put a nice set of 18" on with some pi srings ,,mostly ;)

There aint no premium on cougars now unless you go to a garage.

Jump on the owners forum and get a nice clean looked after one for the right price

That's what my ex missus uses but she can't get hold of them for love nor money any more. She's been round 10 tyre fitters round here and can't find anyone with them in stock or who can get them in a sensible time.
