HD 4850 V's 9800GTX+

Just checked the tracking and it seems the card has left the depot ready for delivery tomorrow morning :D Better have a beast of a gaming session tonight to say goodbye to my trusty x1600xt :p

That's going to be quite an upgrade

dont forget - ati released a driver that improves performance allready, did the review use it?

No, it didn't.

Given the heat issues people are reporting with 4850 i'd definintely opt for a 9800GTX/+ over it, especially since it does actually appear to be a little faster from the reviews i've seen, plus it overclocks further then the standard 9800GTX.

But thats just me, more interested in 4870.

If a 25MHz clock boost from an 8800 GTS 512MB warrants 9800 GTX, a further 63MHz clock boost must be at least a 9900 Ultra. :D

Not sure this is gonna be the case when fan control comes out though. Gurusan said his fan is only running at 14% which is leading to the high temps. The 9800gtx is a far more mature card so i will wait and see what happens when rivatuner brings out software that works with 4850 and also a few driver releases from ati before i make any judgements.

There are no 'issues' it's just hotter than what people are used to. There is no way a company with so much respect and money to lose would release a card that had massive problems! Also the cheapest version of the 9800gtx I can find is nearly £50 more! Thats almost half what i paid for my 4850, and there's no way a 50% cost increase is worth a 10%max inc oc performance increase

I still like the xfire option and the ability to get another card down the line with an Intel chipset.

the 9800GTX+ would have to come down to 130ish to make it wantable!:p

What heat issues? Yes it runs hotter than many are used to but I don't see anyone reporting crashes or artifacting due to heat, you can't say it has heat issues.

I don't get this.. sorry but I don't.

I have an X1950 XT-X at the moment.. is the 4850 a worthy upgrade ?

It seems pretty darn cheap compared to what the X1900 + X1950's cost brand new, I jumped out of the graphics card loop a long time ago I'm sorry to say :p

I used to post here regularly :o

In one word YES.

lol the 3850 was a more than worthy upgrade from a x1950xtx, so a 4850 will no doubt leave you very impressed.

Its the best bang for buck card currently and I am hugly impressed with ATI for this release/

Its about time we had top perfromance at mainstream pricing like this card.

Faster than a GTX and only 130ish on release!

Sweet baby sweet!
