i dont think he was meaning to be that deep, he probably just meant some goths who haven't seen daylight yet.
 
Has everyone overlooked the fact that even if you were in a society where you couldnt look at yourself, you would surely touch your own face?

And by looking at other peoples faces you could have an idea of what people look like, so you could know what you look like yourself.

Moon Crickets or whatever that NASA prank caller called them :D. And never mind water, sometimes you can see it in peoples eyes :). Also as someone has already said, by knowing what others look like you could build an image of yourself. You would know your skin colour, length of hair and generally how built you were. You just wouln't be clear about the colour of your eyes ect.

Still, many have seen their reflection. What IS wierd i when you tell uneducated African (or third world countries) people the world is round and then further show them a globe, they are amazed by it.

I guess you guys haven't got some kind of English version of '' groeten uit de rimboe''

Sends a family from here to an authentic traditional tribe for 3 weeks in Africa or Asia or anywhere living by their ways, and then sends a family from the tribe for 3 weeks to Holland.

One tribe from africa got scared of the coast and didn't dare to approach the coast.
They were also afraid of fish in a fish factory saying they are dangerous snakes.

I'm guessing it's a tv show? If so, I think we did, it was called 'Meet The Natives', which had roughly the same premise I think, although I didn't watch it. Just remember a trailer on tv for it where some tribal guy was freaking out about a toaster or something.

Well it could be the same thing that those people have never actually seen themselves because they don't have masses of water anywhere near, or buckets for that matter.

Also buckets usually give a very bad/weak reflection, the water is too shallow and clear.
 
When I lived in Nigeria there were plenty of tribes who had never seen their own face.
My dad would take pictures, get them developed and give them out as gifts.

And not only that OP but one of the main gifts that westerners to to the Americas were mirrors and aborigines saw themselves for the very first time and were willing to part with lots of gold.
 
Ok, although lots of people are very poor, they generally still have seen/have access to sheet metal or corrugated forms thereof. This lovely material can be polished or comes naturally shiny. Thus most people have seen themselves.
 
What crap, aren't easily replicated in the uk, is that serious? i mean, really really serious. You aren't looking for your reflection in water, we have no need to. If you actually went looking for your reflection to check how you looked, you could do it no problem.

Even to a degree, blind people can't see at all, but they can compare their faces to others as they can touch/feel other peoples faces and their own. Seeing your own face doesn't tell you anything, without a comparison. Are you ugly, pretty, handsome, fat, thin, big nose small nose, these things are only knowable from comparison and blind people still have that.

Other things, you're assuming mirrors are a new and hard to manufacture thing, they aren't. Cavemen won't have seen themselves..................because water is also a new thing. Most water has ripples in it, not really, most puddles don't most streams are calm enough at points to be fine. If you caught a reflection in a piece of rippled water and saw a rippled reflection of yourself and became aware it was possible, you'd likely check other water sources for the same thing until you saw a clear picture. You don't have to see your reflection 4 times a day like clockwork to ever see your face.

People in deserts don't necessarily stay put all their lives, infact its rare, and ground water isn't "that" uncommon in deserts. People dig down to find water, or they die, relatively few people in the world live in deserts due to that reason, the few that do have access to water, its as simple as that. Metal, can be reflective, a bronze plate can reflect a picture of yourself, bronze has been made since, what, 400-500BC at least(based purely on reading some Japanese history at the moment and thats when they started to make bronze weapons and farming tools, so in all likelyhood bronze was used WAY before then, but it was fairly widespread by that time). Theres all maner of things that reflect that have been made for several millenia and there are probably few people on earth that don't know what they look like, if any.

Just because someone would be happy with a picture of themselves, does not in any way at all mean they've never seen themselves, nor does paying for a mirror, mean they haven't seen themselves, it just means they didn't have mirrors, and they wanted one.
