I thought they used water bags.
water bag's are like our bottles, you are thinking about the end product, thats all we think about here. THe places that bottle our water, use buckets, essentially, to lift water from streams generally filtered through mountains, into a bottling plant. People in a desert would not lift water from a deep well in a water bag, its inefficient and crap, they would use a bucket, like every other well designed in the history of, wells. Then fill several water bag's from the bucket. Not to mention there are ground sources of water in desert. Egpyt isn't "too" far from being mostly desert yet it still has a river running through it, and most of the population lives very close to the river. No one on earth can live without a water source, no one, so number of people without some water source = zero.
In the most out of the way place you take 1 big huge leaf of some tree, prop the sides up, and when it rains you have water, not difficult.
