Project : Mozart PC 360

just as a spoiler guys I have today put the main case back together

It was a right hassle but I got here.

The main case will be finished by my next update.

I am also including a 5" screen into 3 5.25" bays so that will probably be the final mod

Oh and my new 360 turned up today and my broken motherboard and rf module I got from a well known auction site so can finally get to work completing the 7" XBox 360 drive bay.

Update coming as promised on friday nite

* UPDATE *

As promised its update time, I am well on schedule to finish thios by the end of next week.

Theres been a good productive week of modding done to this case but I did have to stop for 2 days to package up parcels of stuff sold on ebay.

Anyway back to what has happened since the last update.

I decided to complete the case and spent a good time looking at the front facia and deciding whether or not to mod it.

I decided to bite the bullet and use the same design that was used in thew fan grills on the back.

All holes were drilled out first

I then jigsawed very close to the lines I marked out as this aluminium is quite thick.

I then spent what seemed an eternity filing the shape and finally got to point where I was happy

147142801_o.jpg

I didnt want to sand them too smooth as I wanted the same look as the other cut out on the rest of the front.

I then had to remove the left over thermaltake logo.

This wasnt easy, nail polish remover failed so the onmly way was using 1500 grit wet and dry with lots and lots of water.

Took a while but I got there.

I had some AC Ryan black mesh left over from the top panels I made so decided to put some behind the slots I made.

Before I could do this I had to cut out the notches left from cutting the slots.

147143009_o.jpg

25 Dremel cutting bits later and 6 dremel sanding discs and I finally go everything flush ready to take the black mesh

147143047_o.jpg

Its not pretty but its not going to be seen.

I then put the black mesh in place using double sided sticky pads, not only are these strong but they will prevent any noise of the 2 metals knocking together due to any vibrations.

Heres a some pics of the mesh in place

147142976_o.jpg

Very happy with the look as I was worried it wouldnt look right, with the mesh front in place it ties everything together

Next up was the aluminium 120mm fan grill I needed to make to put over the fan next to the I/O panel.

Again I am using the same slot design so I drilled and cut the slots out with the jigsaw.

147143075_o.jpg

Then starting with a big meaty file I got the shape needed, I then refiled everywhere using a precision file.

On ce done I sanded the whole grill using 400 grit sand paper, then repeated the process using 600, 800, 1200 & 1500 grit sandpaper.

Finally I gave iot a quick polish using Turtle Wax metal polish and I'm happy with the outcome

147143092_o.jpg

I then screwed it into place.

147143113_o.jpg

Too complete the front panel I needed to wire up the power buttons & LEDs.

Took all of 5 mins and job done

147143135_o.jpg

Now with this done and put back together the front panel is completely finished, final pictures will come within this update.

I got up this morning feeling fantastic because this is the day my PC finally gets to go into my new case.

I have been having a bit of trouble with my Hiper 580W PSU so treated myself to a Seasonic 900W PSU from these very forums.

Then disaster struck, My new 900W PSU doesnt fit, with me replacing the PSU I used the Hiper to make sure I had clearance but the 900W PSU is huge and is

4 1/2cm too big.

I decided there and then to use the Hiper until I get another one.

So I fitted the PSU into the case.

147143167_o.jpg

My initial plan was too add a brace underneath the PSU for stability but with the PSU screwed tight its solid and not needed so thats saved me a job.

147143200_o.jpg

Now I want to make everything as quiet as possible so I cut up some heatshrink and with double sided sticky tape
I used I use it to prevent the HD cage vibrating against the rest of the case.

147143232_o.jpg

With my hard drives in place I then screwd the cage into its position.

I took a little while but with some jiggery pokery I got it in place. For a large case theres not much room.

147143259_o.jpg

As you can see from the p;icture above I set about hiding the cables.

Sadly I only have small SATA cables and some of the connectors on the PSU needed extensions but I got there in the end.

Heres a pic of the cables hidden behind the tray

147143291_o.jpg

With all cables in place I then put the system in and hid as much cabling as possible

147143378_o.jpg

I then prepared the Xbox 360 motherboard tray by putting all his spacers in place

147143314_o.jpg

Once in place and screwed down it hides all cables

147143336_o.jpg

I am very happy with the result, The tray will need to be removed again ready to hide the 360 cabling but I wanted to know if everything fitted right.

Once done that was it, the actual case now only needs the aluminium framing for the Xbox 360 side panel filed and sanded and they will be done tomorrow and taped in place.

147143543_o.jpg

When I put the system back together I finally got somne good luck, the problems with my PSU have

disappeared and as of yet not returned so fingers crossed.

As you can see theres 3 x 5 1/4" Bays left open, Well once my 5" PSOne LCD Screen arrives I will be modding one into those 3 bays, the floppy bay

will be housing a 3.5" fan controller and of course the 7" top drive bay will house the XBox 360 front panel.

During working on the case today I got a knock on the door, goodies arrived in the shape of a XBox 360

147143584_o.jpg

My faulty RF Module and Motherboard arrived also, I will be removing the connectors needed to make cables to run

to my 360 drive bay.

147143614_o.jpg

Using a Dremel VersaTip I then proceeded to remove the from RF connector and SATA HD connector from the main motherboard and the
connector from the RF module.

After working on this for a while I got frustrated with the awkwardness of having to hold a full board and desolder connectors so decided to cut the connectors out first.

147143645_o.jpg

It took a while but I finally got the 3 connectors off the board I needed.

147144808_o.jpg

I then got some cable from a usb data cable and using the 2 connectors I made a cable to connect the RF module to the Xbox 360 Motherboard.

147144773_o.jpg

I've put the SATA HD connector safe as thats not needed until I interalise my 20GB HD.

I then decided to do a little work on the LCD panel that is going into the 3 x 5 1/4" bays.

I grappled with a VGA cable for over 30 minutes but finally got the connector that I will use to connect it to my graphics card

147144719_o.jpg

I had an hour to spare so getting that connector seemed a good idea but like the SATA HD connector it wont be used until a little later.

Now looking at this picture you may be thinking : What the hell does he need with a Sony leather pouch ?

147144697_o.jpg

Its not the pouch I am interested in but the metal Sony logo I am needing so I put the pouch up and filed down the back of the logo.

147144661_o.jpg

Thats as far as I have got. After I finish the XBox 360 side panel I will be working on getting the XBox 360 into the system.

I will update again next Friday, Hopefully it will be complete or at least the XBox 360 fitted.
