I've had our diversity manager phone me up today to warn me that they've had a complaint about me.

Last week I made a joke on our internal work discussion forums. Someone posted recommending a builder who they said 'arrived at 8am, and worked until 3:30pm without a break, for £100!'.

My comment, which when you think about it is pretty obvious, was 'Were they Polish?'.

God I hate this place. :o
 
You implied that Polish builders work hard and someone complained? :/

What I hate the most about this PC stuff is the people making complaints. Why couldn't that person contact you directly rather than act like a coward and make an official complaint over something so unbelievably trivial. Is that person the kind to complain whenever they hear a "Englishman, Irishman, Scotsman" joke too?

And you have a diversity manager?! How can managing diversity be an 8hr per day job? What the hell does he actually do?

I would email them back and tell them they are a complete waste of space and to get a life!

(if I didn't care about my job..)

Seriously though, that is really lame.

I would try and make some of complaint back at them, such as you feel that as a White British Male, you feel that you are being discriminated against.
 
That's a compliment if anything. Why has someone complained because you've implied that Polish workers are hard working and don't charge the earth.

Write back and ask them if they're saying that Polish are lazy and expensive?
 
If I was you, I would simply refuse to use the internal forum anymore and tell them you are not risking your job over it. Assuming the forum is quite important, it will all fall to pieces :cool:
 
I can see how someone could take it marginally offensively as it kind of says that Polish will work hard for peanuts... but to complain about it is just pathetic. I'd put £100 on the person complaining not even being Polish. But then how many who complain nowadays are actually anything to do with the un-PC comments in the first place?

It is pretty lame that we do have to employ a full time Diversity Manager. Would it surprise you that he's black and gay. Saying that, he is a pretty cool bloke and I'm glad he is in the job and not one of these over the top PC idiots like the guy who complained. He shouldn't officially be telling me about the complaint. He knows its rubbish but has had to spend half the day writing a reply to the complain to say why.

Unfortunately boycotting the forums is a bit difficult. I'm developed them. ;)
